Chapter 1

Nicki POV

I was currently in my room packing my last bag when my mother came in. "Onika darling Derrick is here" she says as I came out my closet. "Ok tell him to come on up and get my bags I have by the door" I say as she stood there teary eyed. "Awwwww mom don't start crying again" I say walking over to her with open arms as we hugged rocking from side to side. "I know baby girl I'm just so happy for you and sad that you're leaving me all at the same time." She says as tears soon filled my eyes.

"I know mommy but I'm gone always come back and visit you, even send you and the family tickets to the game sometimes" I say seeing Derrick appear in my doorway. "I know sweetie" she says pulling away wiping her eyes along with mines kissing my cheek as I sighed out. "Ok mother my boyfriend is here" I say as we giggled. "And I can't kiss my baby" she asks embarrassing me even more. "No no you're fine, continue" Derrick says as my mother smiled walking over to him giving him a hug. "Well I guess I'll leave you two alone, don't create any babies while I'm downstairs" she says as I sighed pushing her to the door.

"Maaaaaaaaaaa stop playingggggg...." I say as Derrick walked over to us. "Actually she can stay because I have something important to say" he says taking my hand as we walked back in my room. My mother sat on my bed as Derrick kept me standing. "So you know we've been together for three years of our college years and when we graduated we agreed to being with each other for a while" he says as I nodded my head yes. "I love you so much, crazy about you and I want to make you my wife." He says as tears filled my eyes. "Will you marry me" he says as I nodded my head yes.

"Yes baby I'll marry you" I say as he slid the ring on my finger picking me up kissing me as my mother cheered. "Wow such a good man Onika I'm glad you said yes. Give me a hug son" she says hugging him as tears rolled down her face. "Wow you make me not even want to leave now and take this opportunity D, it's sad enough we can't be away from each other for long" I say looking down at my ring finger pouting as he walked back over to me.

"Yea I know y'all two are like Velcro" my mother says as I shushed her. "Ma can we have some privacy now" I asked as she cocked her head to the side. "In my house? I don't think so" she says as I gave her a straight face. "Please" I ask again as she finally left us alone. "Look baby you're only going to be gone for how long?" He asks sitting down on the bed as I sat down on his lap. "The whole basketball season" I say as he kissed my hand. "Ok then you'll come back home and be with me then we can focus on planning our wedding" he says as I looked at him.

"They might keep me after the seasons over tho D" I say pouting my lips as he sighed. "We'll work something out but until then let's get your things in the car so I can get you to the airport" he says kissing my forehead as I sighed getting up. Once we got all my bags to his car my mother came out kissing me goodbye. "Bye baby girl, call me soon as you land ok" she says hugging and kissing my cheek as I sighed to keep from crying. I didn't want to leave her here by herself considering my big brother went off to the military leaving me and her behind and my father was never in our lives so it was always just us three.

"Drive safely" she yells out as we got in the car heading towards the airport. Once we arrived he helped me with my bags going inside. "Alright baby. Guess this is a goodbye for now. Be good in Philly" he says as we hugged. I swear I didn't want to let go but I also knew I needed to go ahead and board the plane. "I will D, you too be good while I'm gone and there MAY be tickets to the game in the mail one day" I say looking up at him smiling. Swear I love this boy to death and how he's so supportive of my dreams and career.

"Ayeeeee turn up bae, I'd love to come out and watch you know I'm a fan and your biggest supporter besides ya mom and crazy ass friends" he says as I smacked his chest lightly. "Stop talking about my friends boy" I say giggling as he chuckled. "What they are. But alright baby it's time for you to get going, your flight number is up next" he says as I pouted yet again feeling the tears coming. "Alright. Love you" I say standing on my tip toes placing a sweet kiss on his lips. "Call me when you arrive" he says as I turned around nodding my head.

I watched as he waved walking away before turning around wiping the tears from my face. Boy I'm going to miss his ass and now that I'm engaged to him I'm going to miss him even more along with my mother and friends but sometimes you have to leave everything behind to chase your dreams right? Boarding the plane I took a seat placing my beats headphones on turning soft relaxing music on as I laid my head back eventually drifting off to sleep.
