"Peyton are you ready?" I heard my mother yell from the base of the stairs. Groaning to myself, I rolled onto my left side, starring at the ceiling. I so didn't want to get up, especially since I had to go to school today.
"Yeah, Im getting up." I stood up, and sauntered my way to the bathroom. "Woah! Avoid the mirror." I said, turning around after seeing my hair a complete wild mess and my smeared makeup. Slightly turning the nob on my shower, I slipped out of my pajamas and hopped in. At first it was freezing cold, but it quickly warmed up. Shivering, I began washing my hair.
"Peyton, what are you doing? I thought you said you were ready?" My mom asked, bursting through the door, nearly scaring me to death.
"I said, I was getting up." I groaned.
"Well if you dont hurry up, youll be late for your first day of senior year." She said, before slamming the door shut. My mother was always one of those people who thought education came first then other things, but I didn't care, I just wanted to hang out with my friends and be lazy. I made straight A's in school as it was, and yet she was still pushing me to do better. I remember about two years ago, she wanted me to join this one after school club, at first I thought it was no big deal but then it turned into a book club. Now dont get me wrong, I love books and wouldn't mind reading them with other people, but once the people in that club got into fights and started chucking the books at each other, I was gone. Washing the conditioner out of my hair, and rinsing the soap off of my face, I stepped out of the shower and threw on my robe.
"I wonder what Im going to wear today." I sighed, opening my closet, and began shuffling through the clothes I had in there. For every first day of school, everyone has to dress up in their best clothes, but since it was my last first day of school, my outfit had to be perfect. I wanted to be pretty, but I wanted my tomboyish style to show. As I reached into my closet, I grabbed my bright red skinny jeans, my grey Micky Mouse t-shirt. After comfortably slipping into them, I walked around my room for about ten minutes trying to find my red flats. Finally finding them, I shoved them on walked back to my bathroom to curl my hair. Plugging the curling iron in, I began seperating pieces of my hair, this would only take a couple minutes, I thought to myself as I looked down, only to notice the curler wasnt turned on. It took me twenty minutes to finally give up on it, and rush downstairs to where my mom was. "Mom, my curling iron is broken, can I borrow yours?" I asked, throwing myself around the corner tp see her sitting on the couch drinking her coffee and reading the newspaper.
"Yeah, its on the counter. You better hurry, you only have twenty minutes." She warned, as I ran into her bathroom and grabbed the curler.
"Thanks." I yelled, running back up the stairs and into my own bluish green bathroom. I put the curler in one piece of hair and waited a few moments before taking it out and revealing a perfectly curled piece of hair. Smiling to myself, I took another piece of hair, and curled it. Continuing this cycle for about five minutes, I finally had my whole head of hair curled and placed into a beautiful red bow. I turned off the curler, threw it in the drawer and pulled out my makeup kit. Carefully, I applied my eye shadow. I wanted to go for a smokey eye today, but I decided to go with blue on the color instead of red or pink. After I finally finished my makeup, I slid out into my bedroom, slipping on my mustache ring, my cross earrings, my headphones necklace, and my regular headphones, I skipped down the stairs and to the door. "Bye mom." I yelled, shutting the door behind me. I knew that if I didn't get out now, she would start to well up and go nuts on me. "Oh my baby is growing up. Let me take a picture of you on your last first day of school." I mocked her as I made my way to the bus stop. When I got about five feet from the bus stop, I saw my best friend, Morgan sitting on the bench next to the bus stop. Nearly running over to her, I slide onto the seat. "Hey Morgan." I smiled, setting my bags down on the bench next to me.
"Hey Peyton." She replied, hugging me tightly. Morgan and I haven't seen each other for nearly three months, and us being best friends, we missed each other. "What did you do all summer?" She asked, looking me in the eyes before slowly turning around and reaching into her bag for something. Weird, she never looks people in the eyes, not even me. When Morgan was younger, she got publicly embarrassed and ever since then, she has had a hard time looking people in the eyes.
"Nothing much. Just laid around playing on tumblr, writing on wattpad, sleeping, and eating." I laughed, thinking back to the days when I never even got out of bed. I just played on my computer pigging out to oreos and monster energy drinks. "What did you do?"
"Oh, I hung out with my grandparents all summer. As you know they live in Texas?" She asked, pulling out her notebook. I nodded my head, showing that I knew where they lived. We had gone and visited them almost every summer since we were eight. "Well they're thinking about moving here."
"Wow, really?" I asked looking over at her. I crossed my legs underneath myself, and scooted back closer to the back of the bench. "Thats cool." Morgan and her grandparents were always close, even closer than her and her own parents.
"Yeah, but it wont be for a couple months. They have to square everything out before they even think about moving here." I laughed, her grandparents were practically rich, but they always hide most of their money in fear of people. When her grandma was younger she got robbed at gunpoint and ever since then, she has always been afraid of being robbed again. I stood up to pull up my pants just as the bus began pulling up.
"Looks like its time to go to school." I sighed. I always hated being the last people that the bus driver had to pick up. It always meant that right after they picked us up, we would go to straight to school, I would rather get picked up and then go get the other students, but thats what you get for living closest to the school. Hoping on the bus we ran sat down in the back of the bus.
"Hey Peyton you're looking good today." I heard Blake and his friends begin to catcall at me.
"Awe, thank you, you arragent overly self-absorbed asshole." I smirked over at Blake. He glared at me, but then he turned around. Laughing with Morgan we both leaned back against the back of the bus seat. When the bus stopped we all began standing up and filing off the bus.
"What classes did you get this year?" Morgan, asked as she grabbed my arm and pulled me closer. We had just gotten our schedules, and of course being the senior girls we are, we didnt care about them we just wanted to make sure we had some if not all classes together.
"I have Calculus, Honors Biology, English 4, P.E., Lib and Law, and Choir." I said, looking from my schedule, over to hers.
"Damn." She said, throwing her schedule down next to mine.
"What?" I looked through her classes. "Not one class together." I groaned, "Well looks like its another Freshman year all over again." I said, plopping down in the seat next to me. She sat down next to me as Alex and Dustin came walking up.
"Hey you guys." Alex smiled, leaning down to leave a soft kiss on Morgan's forehead. Dustin walked over to my side, and wrapped his arm around my shoulders.
"Hey baby." I smiled, leaning in and kissing him on the lips. I leaned into Dustins chest, as he wrapped his arms around my waist, keeping me closely to his body.
"Whats the matter Morgan?" Alex asked, grabbing her hand.
"Peyton and I have absolutely no classes together." She groaned. I looked over at the clock, only to realize that we only had about five minutes until we had to go to class.
"As much as it sucks, my mom will kill me if Im late to my first class of my senior year. So Im going to go." I sighed, standing up. I leaned down and kissed Dustin on the cheek before grabbing my stuff and heading to my first class which was Calculus. I didn't like math, I never have, but I sat through it anyway.
"Peyton..." I heard someone whisper my voice. Feeling the hairs on the back of my neck standing up, I quickly turned around only to see the empty hallway starring back at me. Theres a lot of the great things about sitting in the back of the class, like no one behind you, first out of class, and being able to talk to the people out in the hallway. Slowly turning back around, I looked up at the white board. When I finally focused my eyes on the board, I saw my name written in something red and sticky on it. It looked like blood but I wasn't quite sure, I shook my head and rubbed my eyes. Thinking I was just tired, I looked back up at the board, and it was gone.
"This is going to be a long day." I whispered to myself, looking down at the paper that the teacher had set down on my desk. I figured we had went through three years of the same bull, that I was allowed to fall asleep. Right as I laid my head on the desk, I felt a piece of paper hit my arm. Raising my head, I saw a note with my name beautifully written on it. The only person I knew that could write like that, was my old friend Christina. Opening the note, I read: Hey, party at my house tonight. Senior Year! Looking over at Christina, she smiled at me. I put my thumb up to let her know I was in, and her smile brightened even more. I hadn't been to a party in months, and I needed to have some time to hang out with my friends. I had to tell Morgan about it. Pulling out my phone, I punched in Morgan's phone number.
Christinas throwing a party and were going! I texted her. It wasnt long before I got a response. Alright, but Ill have to tell my mom Im spending the night with you. I smiled, she always needed an excuse to get out of that house, and I was always happy to help her with it. Fine, but well have to think of a way to talk my parents into it. I texted her back before the bell rang. Welp, looks like its time to go to Biology, I thought. Standing up and making my way out of the classroom, I quickly made my way to my science classroom so I could get to my seat before the other annoying kids get there. Sitting down, I took out a notebook and started doodling until the class started. Not really paying attention to the lessons, or what they were talking about. Before I knew it, the final bell had rung and we were all heading toward either our cars or the buses. I stood outside waiting for Morgan to get outside, before I walked to the buses. When Morgan had finally gotten outside, she was smiling brightly and she hooked her arm with mine. "We have to go to my house first so I can pack my things." She said, as we got onto the bus. We told the bus driver what was going to happen, and he just smiled and nodded his head. When we got to her house, we hopped off the bus and ran to her bedroom. After she packed her things, we told her parents where we were going and before they could say anything, we ran out the door and down the street to my house. Up to my bedroom, we got to my room, we threw her stuff onto my bed and started shuffling through my closet. Tonight is going to be an amazing night, or so I hoped.
