The Start of It

"Hey Evella, Would you mind if I asked you a question?" Jaxon asked.

"Of course not Jax...Toss." I look at him with questioning eyes.

"What would you do if life turned out to be like those books you read? Like when a best friend falls in love with his best friend?"

....What's the meaning of this question? Did he somehow find out about my feelings for him? How is that possible? The only person I told was Julianne. Julianne!!!! I'm going to kill her!

"Um...well that's not possible. I mean it is but best friends can never date. It would just ruin their friendship." I say panicking.
"Okay." he says, a sad look in his eyes.

What's that about?

"Listen Eva..." Bringgg! Brinngg! My ringtone cuts through the air.
I respond, "Hey mum. What's up?"

"You want me to come home now? Okay Bye."

"Jax I'm sorry. I have to go home. Something just came up. See you tomorrow."

I run straight home after that without even listening to his response.

*Next morning*

I knock on Jaxon's house and Linda answers. "Hey Linda. Where's Jaxon?"

She looks surprised. "He left for New York this morning. He didn't tell you?"

"New York???? Why?"

"He said he wanted to fly from his nest and experience life on his own. So right now he's staying at one of his cousin's friend's place."

"How could he leave with telling me!!!???? What kind of best friend is he?" I shout.

Linda looks at me through peering eyes, "I saw him dialing your number a few times. Maybe he called you."

"Yeah you're right maybe he did." I say walking away.

I open take out my phone to check it. 1 voicemail. 31 missed calls!!! Yesterday he tried to tell me something but I left. This is all my fault. Wait...no it's not. It's all my mum's fault.

*Yesterday at home*

"Mom, what's the emergency." I say rushing through the door.

"Y-you're brother cut his finger," she shouts panicked.

My heads drops and I sigh. "That's the emergency. You made me leave Jaxon for that!"

"Yeah what's the big deal? I know you guys have been best friends since childhood but I can swear it seems as if you're in love with him."

"What....how did we go from one topic to another." I say blushing.

"What! Honey you so are in love with him! Eep I can't wait till you get married and I get my grandchildren! And the great thing is that he's in love with you too," she screams happily.

"Mum, what are you talking about? Have you gone nuts? Jax in love with me?"

"Well he told me to never tell you this but because of certain circumstances I had to. You see when you turned 17 Jaxon came to your father and I to ask if we would be unhappy if you two ever dated. Us being ourselves we basically gave us our blessings for your marriage I mean relationship because we knew no one could take care of you as much as Jaxon. And I'm happy to have found out that you feel the same about him as he does about you."

"Really." I say my heart pounding. Jaxon said that. He loves me? But wait...I think as skepticism begins to settle in my heart. That was a year ago. I'm now 18.

"Honey," she says knowing the look on my face. "I know what you're thinking. That was a year ago. But have you ever seen how he's around you. How he looks at you. How he smiles whenever you're around. Everyone else saw it and knew that you guys were in love with each other. That's why all the other girls knew they didn't stand a chance. The town wouldn't be surprised if you guys got into a relationship."

*Back to present*

Because of what mom said I couldn't sleep a wink last night. I sigh and check my voicemail from Jaxon.

"Hey Eva....I know when you check this I'll probably be gone and you must be pissed with me right now. I'm sorry but this is only temporary until senior year starts. It's just for the summer. But I still want you to know this even though I might be acting like it's the end of the world. I've always loved. I've always loved you. I'll say it again. I've always loved you. Ever since I first lay my eyes on you I knew that you were the one for me. The one I was meant to love and the only one I'll ever love. By then the tears are already running down my face

"So that's all I wanted you to know. But what I told you can't compare to half of the feelings I feel for you. Next time I see you I'll let you know exactly what I feel," he ends.

I stand up determined. I know I'm going to do.

I dial Mom while waiting at the airport. "Mom I'm at the airport. I got Jaxon's address from Linda. I'm going to chase my love. I'm sorry I left without your permission." I say before hopping on the plane.
