The World Was Wide Enough

The violence in the streets

This is what we are told to fear

But the violence is so much more

It surrounds us in pouring tears.

We watch from our widows, our tvs, and the media

Hearing how the violence has spread beyond a distance

Country to country filled with cries for help

Many longing for their loved ones; the pain that has been dealt

They say that weapons are not the issue

I can't help but laugh as the anger and frustration at that one statement will not pass

Go ahead keep your statement while the dead cannot say otherwise

It was the hand that pulled the trigger? The gun could not do it alone likewise?

Stop, let me speak, now if the man did not have the gun you are telling me that so many people would still bleed?

No, that is the answer because weapons are half the cause, the person who pulls the trigger is the half we cannot stop

But we can stop the distribution of such lethal weapons being spread

The man would have still tried to kill, gun or not within his hand

But tell me this would a knife have killed 50 and left 53 distraught?

We go to war with weapons that are meant to fight armies by the hundreds until they are stopped

So why are these weapons available for casual sporting not dropped?

Too many men, women, and children have lost their lives this year

The rest of us will continue to live in outright fear

So when are things going to change?

When will the violence be controlled?

Because it is no longer just in the streets, occasional beats, children hiding under sheets.

The violence has surpassed the very aftermath that we as humanity have thought violence could cause

After all the killing and the shooting and the bombing and the hating and terror that has brought many to their knees and others out to speak, we must look around and think what the country will do to stop these things

And as we think these thoughts and are waiting for a solution while the congress men and women seal their mouths shut in resolution, we must ask ourselves,

Is mass death, blood, and grief worth the amendment held within the constitution what we seek?
