I Knew

The air felt strangely different tonight. Ally felt it, Dinah felt it and she was almost scared of the fact that she knew why it felt different. The atmosphere was thick with tension as the two girls made their way to bed.

If this a couple months ago, the couple would easily make themselves comfortable on their king size mattress. Sharing kisses, laughs, and breathless moments. What any two young people do when they're in love.

Ally sighed, giving up and plopped down on bed. Rubbing her temples, she sat up and started to read her usual late night novel. Reading was never one of her hobbies but of course, ever since that night, Ally needed a distraction to keep herself awake whenever she dreadfully waited for her partner to return home. Ally put on her reading glasses and started reading from where she left off a couple nights ago.

On the other side of the bed, Dinah bit her lip as she watched her girlfriend with both interest and pity. Ever since she's been staying out longer, Ally has started up a new bedtime routine that she wouldn't do before. Dinah felt the guilt pang at her heart, thinking her lover has found out what's been keeping her home. She bit her lip once again and gulped as she stared at Ally.

Ally didn't so much as take a glance towards Dinah's direction. She felt her presence and instead of wanting to yell at her, throw anything in her reach at her girlfriend, cry, tell her to leave...Ally just wanted it to be over. She rubbed her temples again and put her book beside her. Tonight is not the night, she thought to herself. I'll go to sleep and she'll be gone in the morning as usual, so I'll leave this time too...yeah that's what I'll do. Ally smiled to herself at this thought- it wasn't what someone would call your average smile, but more of an expressionless grimace.

Dinah immediately took notice of what she would consider a smile coming from Ally. Dinah stared wide-eyed at her girlfriend, clearly shocked from her first smile after what seemed to be weeks. She wanted to question her, confront her. Why is she smiling? What am I missing?

Flashback:
It was late in the night, with a smelly aurora coming from the pots on the stove, and the steam rising from pans. Ally was ecstatic to say the least, cooking dinner for her and her girlfriend in their small kitchen. Their 2 year anniversary's coming up soon and Ally wants to make the prior week one of the most important times that their relationship would go through. Ally took a double check on everything that's cooking and decided it was time for her well deserved break.

She checked the time and sighed, it was almost 9 and Dinah wasn't home yet. It is Friday, so she's probably just busy finishing up some things at work. Ally checked her messages and saw that they were empty, she felt a small pang tug towards her heart but she brushed it away. She shouldn't be surprised anyway. Dinah is busy, she should feel sympathy towards her girlfriend- working stressful hard hours in the studio, making a living for the couple. Ally spent a few minutes checking her social media and went on snapchat. She took a selfie with the puppy filter and captioned it "Cooking dinner for bae, what y'all doing?" She smiled and posted it on her story, and went to check everyone's sc story after. It only took a couple seconds for Ally to realize that Dinah's story was first...meaning she was the most recently updated - 12 seconds ago to be exact. She tapped on it and saw what appeared to be a full on make-up faced Dj in a shower, lip syncing to a song. Ally laughed and admired her girlfriend through the screen until she slowly realized there's no way Dinah's home...and there couldn't possibly be a shower casually lying around at her work. As Ally expected, the snap was deleted from Dinah's story a minute later.
