Arms crossed, I stood at the front gates, waiting for Katelyn and Jeffory. I glanced at people walking around. Some seemed wary of my presence, others seemed relieved that I'd be gone for a while.

The guards stationed at the gates didn't question me. Being the High Priest and the lord's son, no one really does.

As I waited for Katelyn and Jeffory, I studied a map given to me locating Phoenix Drop. It seemed like a small and relatively new village, just beginning to thrive.

Good for them.

"We're here," called out Jeffory's voice. I turned to see him accompanied by Katelyn coming my way.

I nodded. "Let's head out."

"Zane, check it out, we're nearly here!"

Katelyn's unnecessarily loud voice woke me up from my sleep. I didn't even know I fell asleep on this rocking ship.

I made my way out to the front deck and noticed the two of them looking out at the horizon.

"Huh, I thought you always get seasick," I said to Katelyn. "I didn't expect you to be so excited."

"I'm excited because we're finally getting off this ship," she replied. Jeffory laughed.

I looked out into the horizon, and sure enough, there was an island in the distance. We were already at Phoenix Drop. It was time to see what the village was like.

As soon as we docked, I was greeted by a drunk guard and someone else trying to keep the drunk one in line. Not a great first impression.

Upon noticing me, the drunk guard yelled, "Identify yourself!"

"Uh..." I stammered.

"Dale..." The other guy face-palmed. "I apologise on his behalf. Uh, who may you be?"

"Zane Ro'meave," I responded as politely as possible, "High Priest of O'khasis."

As realisation dawned on him as to who I really was, he seemed even more alarmed. "So sorry. We'll, uh, bring you to the lord. Dale, keep it together."

I glanced at Katelyn, who had a puzzled look on her face. Jeffory just shrugged.

We followed those two into the village square, which had a few people in it. Three of them were arguing over something. One of them--the old lady--was the first to notice me. "Ah! You must be the High Priest."

Katelyn snickered and whispered to me, "That old hag's getting married?"

Deciding not to respond to her, I spoke to the old lady. "Yes."

"Perfect. Donna," she said, turning to the brunette, "this is the priest I was talking about."

The brunette nodded and greeted me respectfully. "A pleasure to meet you, your highness."

I'm not the king, I wanted to say, until Jeffory poked my side with a stifled laugh. I shot him a glare.

"My name is Donna," continued the brunette, "and I'm the one getting married, not my mother."

"I see." I didn't have much to say. I was here to meet the lord, not have a chat with the villagers.

While Donna, her mother and the redhead went back to arguing, I turned to Jeffory and Katelyn. "I'm not sure what I was expecting here. Where's the lord?"

"Beats me." Katelyn shrugged, but her eyes started turning to the left. So did Jeffory's.

I turned to my left to see a raven-haired woman with a stern expression walking towards me. She was being escorted by a single guard, whose head was hidden underneath a helmet. The guard himself seemed to be staring right at me, although I couldn't tell because of his helmet. His gaze was intimidating.

Suddenly, I didn't feel so comfortable.

The woman stopped right in front of me. "You must be the High Priest."

I nodded. "Yes. My name is Zane Ro'meave."

The helmeted guard shifted around once I mentioned my name.

"My name is Aphmau," continued the woman. "I am the lord of Phoenix Drop."

I shook her hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

"I suppose those three--" she gestured to Donna, her mother and the redhead, "--have already told you about the wedding," said Aphmau.

I nodded, unsure of what else to say. "Do make yourself at home," said Aphmau, but her tone of voice said otherwise. I decided not to say anything.

Aphmau glanced at Katelyn and Jeffory. Katelyn had her arms crossed, and Jeffory tilted his head.

She then walked past us, probably continuing her daily patrol. Her guard continued staring at me as he walked on, and I tried avoiding his gaze.

"Something about Helmet Head really sets me off," muttered Jeffory.

"Agreed." I bit my lip. "On the bright side, we won't have to deal with this village for too long."

"It's getting late," said Katelyn, "and according to some guard here, they've made rooms for each of us here."

"Good to know they aren't inconsiderate." I crack a grin, before realising neither of them can see it due to my mask. "Uh, we should go there. Wherever it is."

Katelyn nodded. "I think it's this way."

We made our way to one of the houses. There were three that were unoccupied but made habitable. I assumed two were for Jeffory and Katelyn and one was for me. I entered the one to my right, and I was greeted by a small, wooden interior. It was small, but a comfortable place to stay nonetheless. Luxury wasn't a need of mine.

I immediately sprawled onto the bed. As soon as this wedding was over, I wouldn't have to come back here.

The lord herself was relatively alright. She seemed slightly intimidating, but that was it.

Now, her helmeted guard was a different story. Something about that him gave me the chills. He looked like he knew me. I certainly didn't know him.

I didn't think I wanted to know him.

Nonetheless, it would be done and over with soon. I shouldn't have to worry about this.

As I let my eyelids close, I drifted off to sleep.
