"Zane," called out Katelyn, "you should probably get up."

I groaned. "Two more minutes."

"You get up on your own back at O'khasis," continued Katelyn, "so how come you aren't getting up now? Besides, you need to prepare for the wedding."

The wedding. I had almost forgotten about it. "I'm coming."

Within a few minutes, I got dressed and ready, and I went out to meet Katelyn and Jeffory.

"You should probably talk to the lord," Jeffory suggested.

I rolled my eyes. "I was going to do that anyway."

The three of us made our way to the hill where Lord Aphmau's house sat atop of. Instead of finding her, I spotted her head guard instead, and I immediately stopped walking.

"What's the matter?" asked Jeffory, before noticing Helmet Head standing in front of the house. "Oh."

"You know," started Katelyn, "that guy's not the boss of you. In fact, you're at a way higher position than him."

"I mean, I guess," I muttered, but Katelyn was right. I shouldn't let him intimidate me when I could very well get him killed.

(I mean, I'd never do that. It's just something I could do, but I don't know why anyone would do that to someone innocent albeit creepy.)

I approached Helmet Head with Katelyn and Jeffory right beside me.

The second he noticed us coming, he started staring right through me. Maybe approaching him was a terrible idea.

"Correct me if I'm wrong," I started confidently, "but you are the head guard, right?"

Helmet Head nodded silently. Was he selectively mute?

"For the wedding," I continued, "there is a dress code. I hope you aren't going to show up in a guard's attire."

Helmet Head finally spoke up, and he did so coldly. "That may be a custom in O'khasis, but here in Phoenix Drop, it isn't."

That voice.

"Zane?" Katelyn whispered.

"I'm fine," I muttered to Katelyn."

"Is something the matter?" called out Lord Aphmau. Helmet Head and I both turned to see her approach us.

"It's a pleasure to see you bright and early, Lady Aphmau," I greeted her. "By the looks of it, preparations for the wedding have been complete."

She nodded. "They have, indeed. What's going on here?"

"Erm," I started, "your guard here refuses to wear formal attire for the wedding. Usually, guards wear formal attire instead of their regular uniforms for safety purposes. A wedding that's heavily guarded implies a rich one, and that could attract thieves--"

"Garroth will wear whatever he sees fit." Aphmau's icy voice sent a chill down my spine, but that wasn't the worst part.

Garroth? That was his name? Either Aphmau's head guard shared the same name and voice as my brother, or the helmeted guard standing in front of me was him.

And I wasn't sure what was worse.

"Zane." Jeffory nudged me. I hadn't realised I went silent for a moment.

"In any case," I continued, now wary of this Garroth, "are you not the lord of the village? He has to follow your rule."

"Correct, but I say that it's his choice," countered Aphmau. "I will not force him."

"If it's that much of a problem, your grace," spat Garroth, venomously emphasising my title, "then I won't attend the wedding at all."

Garroth marched off. Seeing her guard like this, Aphmau shot me a dirty look.

"The ceremony will begin in two hours," she said with an icy glare, before leaving to talk to Garroth.

I had a feeling I just got myself into something very bad.

The only thing on my mind right now was Garroth. Was Helmet Head really my missing brother, or was it just a coincidence to find someone named Garroth in Phoenix Drop? Garroth wasn't the rarest name, after all. These two shared the same name and gross personality; that was all.

"Zane, are you alright? You kind of stopped in the middle of your words," said Katelyn.

"I'm, uh..." I wasn't sure what to say or what to think. I didn't want to worry these two. "I'm fine. I really am."

"Okay," said Jeffory, but he didn't sound convinced. "We'll be watching the ceremony from afar."

"Alright." I nodded to them. I had to prepare myself for the wedding.

Clad in ugly white-and-gold robes (again, I had no choice), I stood at the altar with Aphmau--the maid of honour--and Logan as Donna walked down the aisle. While everyone was watching the bride in awe, I glanced at the forested region of this village. I noticed a certain guard watching the wedding from afar.

So Garroth was attending the wedding after all, just secretly.

Garroth stared right at me. I looked away back at Donna. She finally stood at the altar, right in front of Logan.

I could tell those two really were in love, but I didn't care about that much. I just wanted this wedding over with.

"We are gathered here today with family and friends to celebrate Donna and Logan's wedding," I began. "These two souls will be joining forever as one in this realm and in the next."

Everyone was watching the couple. I glanced back at Garroth hiding between trees. I quickly continued. "The bond of eternity will keep them together, and in that bond, they shall find companionship and love. Logan, do you take Donna to be your lawfully wedded wife?"

I wasn't listening to Logan. I kept glancing at Garroth, and his mannerisms seemed very familiar.

"I do," said Logan.

"And Donna," I continued without paying much attention, "do you take Logan to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

"I do," said Donna with a giggle.

"It is in my honour to present you as husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Everyone started clapping as Donna and Logan just got married, but I kept staring at Garroth. Not even he was looking at the wedding. He was just glaring at me.

He was glaring at me the same way my brother had glared at me--coolly, so no one would notice, but with malicious intent burning in his eyes, screaming how much he really wanted to hurt me.

And I had a feeling I knew the reason why.

A/N: I AM SO SORRY FOR DISAPPEARING FOR OVER A MONTH

lots of personal issues came up along with writing a separate, non-wattpad story as well a horrible writer's block.

fortunately, i have good news!

i'm hopefully going to go back into the groove of writing, AAAAAAAND...

i finally have plot ideas for estranged, so that's continuing as well.

i also have ideas for another oc-centered book like shadow knight's revenge, but i'm not confirming anything yet.

i'm glad to be back.

until then.
