[Jordan]
As I entered the doors of Arvington High School, I felt a familiar rush of despair. I looked down the halls, and saw students rushing to get to their first period. Nothing was changed throughout the summer months. The dismally grey ceiling tiles, the white walls, the laminate tile floor, and the same rude students all remained from previous years. As I was getting lost in my thoughts, I immediately felt a hard blow to my ribs
"MOVE IT FREAK!" A loud angry voice boomed, followed by snickers from my peers.
When I regain my balance, I notice a familiar red and white varsity jacket, Nike Jordans, and designer jeans. This of course was none other than Caleb, the captain of the football team. Why should I be surprised? He has been nothing but a complete jerk to me since the fourth grade. Ashley immediately rushed to my side and grabbed my hand. I have never been so grateful for somebody in my entire life.
"Touch him again and youre dead," She hissed.
"Whatever, you two losers enjoy each others company," Caleb called back as he was walking away. This was followed by giggles from some of the cheerleaders and teammates.
"Ignore him. We're going to be late for Chemistry, and I know Mr. Fedrini is your favourite teacher." Ashley said, with concern in her eyes. She could really tell I was blindsided by that one.
I smiled at her, thanked her, and we walked to chemistry. It's true. Mr. F has always been the best teacher. I think that on some level we get each other. Or maybe he gets me. He has always been sympathetic about me being bullied, and reaches out to me whenever bullying situations get severe. He has backed me up numerous times in the principals office, and always has the perpetrators of bullying suspended from school. It was his zero tolerance attitude that always made me feel safe in his classroom.
Ashley and I claimed our usual seats in the back left corner of the class. This made it easier for us to exchange text messages during class without being caught. We were slightly early, which was perfect. We sat in our spots, said hi to Mr. F, exchanged small talk about summer, and then the bell rang and the class began to fill up.
All of the familiar faces kept pouring in, and taking seats at various desks around the room. A few people said hi to Ashley and I, but most just ignored us, or laughed at us and sat down. Mr. Fedrini segwayed right from his intro directly into chemistry. In his typical fashion he wasted no time, and got right into the material. I was always interested in science, so I eagerly took out my notebook and began jotting down notes.
The rest of the morning went by uneventfully. Luckily, this year Ashley was in every single class of mine again, so I had company for the entire day.
When the lunch bell rang, Ashley and I eagerly grabbed our lunches from our lockers. Since it was nice out, we decided to eat outside on the front lawn of the school, on the picnic tables near the parking lot. As I was walking outside, I noticed the first face of the day that I had never seen before, and what a sight it was.
Nobody, not even Ashley knows I am gay, so I struggled to remain in control of my expression, but at this very moment it was finding that task extremely difficult. I looked up at this perfect sculpture of a man and seriously had to resist drooling. He was around 5'11, perfectly muscled, with extremely pale skin. He wasn't pale in an ugly way, but in a porcelain beautiful kind of way. He had chocolate brown hair that was cut short, but then grown out ever so slightly, and styled in a perfectly executed controlled mess. He had chiseled, angular features, perfect slightly full lips, and big eyes that could strike me dead with the wrong glare. Interestingly enough, they were the most green eyes I had ever seen. Upon examining him more, I noticed that he was impeccably dressed. He was wearing a Tom Ford leather jacket that I had seen in this months issue of GQ magazine, a Comme des Garcons t-shirt, Ted Baker jeans, and a really awesome pair of black leather runners. This person was easily the most gorgeous man I had ever seen in my entire life. I am pretty sure he noticed me gawking and staring at him, as he gave me a confused look, cocked his head to one side ever so slightly, like he was examining me as well. At that moment, his eyes lit up, and as i was about to smile, he quickly turned around and walked very quickly down the hall. I also noticed his movements were swift, agiile, and almost cat-like.
I felt chills run down my spine. I could not stop myself from staring as this mysterious man walked down the hall.
"That was really weird," Said Ashley. "You wouldn't stop staring at that guy. Do you know him? Has he given you any trouble? If he has i swear to--"
"Ash don't worry! I was just trying to see if I recognized him. He looked familiar." I quickly interrupted with the most realistic lie I could think of. I was really just staring at him because he was the most beautiful man I have ever laid my eyes on. I quickly tried to shake him out of my head and I said,
"Lets go eat our lunch. We've already wasted enough of our lunch period."
I was confused as to why he was in my high school. Arvington is such a small town that if someone new moved in, it would have been more than likely that I would have heard about it.
Ashley and I ate our lunch and exhanged our usual back and forth conversation. I definitely seemed distracted, and I think Ashley could tell. I couldn't help but keep thinking about that guy I just saw, and wondering why I couldn't seem to get him out of my head.
