"Flamekit, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, even if it costs you your life?" Flamekit trembled with excitement "I do" He meowed, as confident as ever. "Then from this day on, you will be known as Flamepaw, your mentor will be Blueheart, train hard young one." Sunstar jumped down from the highrock and gently touched noses with the newly proclaimed apprentice. "Flamepaw, Flamepaw!" the clan yowled as the apprentice walked toward Blueheart and stopped beside him. "Are you ready for a tour of our territory?" Blueheart asked as the clan dispersed. "Oh am I!" Flamepaw yowled with excitement. Touring the territory already? This is gonna be so cool! Flamepaw thought as they went out the gorse tunnel.
"What?" Flamepaw meowed with disapproval. "I have to search the elders for fleas? Why can't I just hunt?" Blueheart gave Flamepaw a cold stare. "It is an apprentice duty, now, I will show you how" Blueheart led Flamepaw to the medicine cat's den. "Gorsetail, can you please give us some mousebile? I am showing Flamepaw how to clean the elders of ticks." Gorsetail grunted as he gave Blueheart a leaf with a substance on it. "Come now, Flamepaw." Blueheart's meow was partway muffled by the leaf in his mouth. Flamepaw wrinkled his nose in disgust. "What is that foul smell?" Blueheart put down the fowl smelling leaf. "It's mousebile." Blueheart dabbed his paw in the liquid and put it on Smalltails back. "It makes the fleas come off and then," Blueheart stopped as he grabbed the flea and crushed it in mouth. "Now, Flamepaw. Try it." Flamepaw dabbed his paw in the mousebile and put in on a flea, pulled it off and crushed it. "Good job, Flamepaw." Blueheart congratulated the young apprentice. "Thanks Flamepaw," Smalltail meowed with gratitude, "Those fleas were killing me."
"Oakfoot, get out of Thundercan territory!" Willowpelt yelled as he took a step forward and bared his teeth. Oakfoot took a step back and yowled with anger, "You Thunderclan cats have taken sunning rocks for the last time, and we are done with our territory being stolen!" Willowpelt yowled with anger as he flung himself at him. "Thunderclan, attack!" Blueheart yowled as he threw himself into battle. Flamepaw jumped to help dapplepaw. Flamepaw scratched dapplepaw's attacker on the nose and dapplepaw joined in. The two of them battled him. "Yea that's right, Riverclan scum." dapplepaw called as the river clan warrior jumped into the river and swimmed across. "Flamepaw, run to camp and call reinforcements!" Blueheart was battling a red furred Riverclan warrior. "Got it." Flamepaw meowed as he started running toward his camp. The bramble swished as Flamepaw stormed through. "Sunstar," Flamepaw panted, "Riverclans attacking sunning rocks."
Sunstar bared his teeth as the gathering began. "Why do you even want sunningrocks? All you ever do there is sit in the sun!" Rockstar calmly looked at Sunstar. " Sunstar, please. Lets be calm about this." Sunstar stopped dead with his face frozen in shock. "No," Sunstar began, "I am done here. You killed Sparrowclaw, and for what? A piece of land that you would like to lay and bask? If so, then me and my clan are done here." Sunstar stared into the crowd, his gaze fixed on his clan. He yowled with pride and determination. "Me, Sunstar, leader of Thunderclan," Sunstar glared at Rockstar, "Declare war on Riverclan." The Thunderclan cats got up and yowled their agreement as Sunstar jumped down from the highrock. Sunstar shot one final glance at Rockstar. "How do you think Riverstar, or should I say River ripple would think of this!" Sunstar felt triumph spread through his pelt as he realized that he hit him hard. He stalked out of fourtrees with pride. Flamepaw glanced at Blueheart. Instantly reading his expression. Don't worry, Just follow Sunstar. He gazed at the other clans, their eyes still with shock as they left.
"What did Sunstar do?" Goldenpelt mewed with disbelief. "He declared war on Riverclan." Flamepaw meowed in reply. Goldenpelt got up from her vole and walked over to Blueheart. "It is true?" She asked. Flamepaw felt a slight wave of sadness in his pelt. She didn't believe him. "Yes, But it is what they get," Blueheart stared out into the forest, "Sparrowclaw didn't deserve to die to the claw of a Riverclan warrior." Blueheart looked down. His eyes clouded with grief of his fallen brother. "All cats old enough to catch their own prey meet beneath the highrock for a clan meeting!" Goldenpelt and Blueheart stared back at Sunstar at his surprise call. Sunstar called over Blueheart and Flamepaw with a flick of his golden tail. Wait a second, Flamepaw thought as he started to groom as fast as possible. "Flamepaw, please come here." Sunstar beckoned the young cat. Flamepaw made his way over to the highrock and sat down. "Flamepaw, you have help this clan through many moons. Without you the clan would have lost more cats at the battle. You have great skills of leadership and determination. Flamepaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, even at the cost of your life?" Flamepaw, still wary from the gathering, managed to slip out the infamous words. "I do." Sunstar leaped from the highrock to stand in front of Flamepaw. "Then from now own, you will be called Flamepelt." The old leader solemnly touched noses with the young warrior. "Flamepelt, Flamepelt!" the crowd yowled as the newly proclaimed warrior walked to the entrance of the camp and sat down to guard the camp for the night.
