Adopted ~ chapter 15

I screamed and began to ran forwards towards them, and that's when I realised, the gun was empty, and Ellie was still alive! The man fired the gun again and again and again but nothing came out. He began to fall to the floor, tears streaming down his face, I couldn't tell if he was crying or laughing, the way his mouth began to curve into a demented smile.

'How?..' He cried out in despair,
'How could this of happened?..'

He began shaking the gun, still pulling the trigger over and over again, but nothing was happening. I ran over to them and grabbed Ellie, stroking her soft hair, holding her like she was just a baby.

'I'm so sorry Ellie,' I whispered in her ear, 'I'm so sorry... I promise I'll never let anyone hurt you ever again.'

I began to run to the phone, tears still running down my face, how could I of ever let something like this happen to her after everything she'd already been through? I quickly dialled 911 and briefly told them what had happened, including what happened at the tour, and around ten minutes later they were here, finally taking the man away for good.

I ran up the stairs to Ellie's room, Ellie still crying in my arms, and gently placed her on her bed. I crawled onto her bed next to her and held her in my arms, pushing her sandy hair behind her ears and wiping the tears away from her eyes.

'Ellie..' I whispered into her ear, ' I am so sorry, really. This should never of happened to you, none of this should, I'm so sorry..'

'It's.. It's okay, mummy,' She said her voice cracking as more tears fell down her face. That was the first time she'd ever called me that, mummy, I couldn't believe it, she really saw me as her mum,
'I.. I don't care about a-a-anything as long as I'm wi-with you..'
And then she slowly started to smile. That was the first time she'd smiled in weeks, ever since the tour she'd never really smiled, she'd never smiled like she really meant it. But now she was.
