Chapter 5: "You Both Are Late!"

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!! My alarm went off but it didn't wake me up right away. It took a few BEEPS to get my mind awake as well as my eyes. I looked at the time and it is 6:45am... wait 6:45!?!!!? I was supposed to wake up at 6:00! I grab my clothes and run into the bathroom and quickly change and brush my teeth. Then I do my makeup and fixed my hair. I ran out and went to my room to get my wedged boots that are black with a gold buckle and gold designer zipper. I guess I accidentally woke up my brother, because he came out and then went to the kitchen and he made me eggs.

I ate my eggs and I gave the little brother a hug and a kiss on the head and grabbed my bag. I walked out the door before he stopped me with these words...

"Did you forget something?" Nate said with a chuckle in his throat.

"What? What would I have forgotten? I have my bag and everything else." I answered a little annoyed.

He looked down at my feet and then looked at my face with raised eyebrows. "You got your shoes but you forget to put them on."

My eyes got so big and my jaw dropped wide open, "Oh yeah! Thanks Nate." I quickly put them on and started running. Yes I am wearing shoes with a heel but you'd be surprised at what I can do when I'm in a hurry.

I had reached the household of the McDonough family and before I knew it I was on the ground. I looked up and I was surprised to see Riley in the same position as I. He was groaning in pain while he struggled, but succeeded, to sit up on the warm pavement. He looked at me with his usual wide and apologetic eyes and quickly stood up and helped me in the process.

When we finally stood face to face he said the first words, "I'm so sorry Kaela! I didn't see you. My alarm went off at 6:45 this morning and I started running and then I ended up on my back. I didn't mean to hit you, or hurt you. I'm sorry!"

"Wait did you say 6:45?" I asked.

"Yeah. Why?" He was confused I could tell.

I was confused as well but I was more frustrated than anything. "I woke up at that same time! What in the world is going on Ri!"

"How am I supposed to know?!? I'm in charge of setting the alarm clock and I set it for 6:15 to get everyone up and to get everything done before we have to get in the car and head to school. But when I woke up they were gone an..."

I stopped him right there, "They who? Your parents? Wait where is Connor and Toby?" He looked at me with the eyes like really you have to ask when I had named his brothers. "Ohhhh... wait nevermind. Wait a minute Toby had taken me to my room last night right?"

"Yeah. Why?" We started walking when I started to answer.

"Because he probably changed our alarms. He was the last one to leave my room and the last to get home right?"

He looked amazed that I had figured it out and broke the silence with, "You might be right but we have to get to school!" And right then and there I was running again with him a foot in front of me.

We got in the line of students heading in to the auditorium. It had been ten minutes since the bell had run and we both looked around for Ms. Copper because she would chew us out since we are "ten" minutes late. She put a kid in detention for being two minutes late. He was in there for a week just for two minutes!!!!

"Where were you?" I felt a hand on my shoulder and turned to see my friend Kirsten with the expression "she's" out to get you on her face. "Ms. Copper came in our homeroom and asked for you but you weren't there! So now she's looking for you two! You can't go in there!"

My eyes got so big..."Wait did she say why she was looking for us or what happened?"

"All she did was ask 'Are Ms. Mikaela and Mr. Riley here today?' She never said why she needed you and all that but I neither of y'all should go in there!" Her eyes got REALLY big and her jaw dropped.

"Wel..." Riley started when we felt a hand on our smack down on our shoulders and a female voice say... "You both are late!"

We turned to see Ms. Copper smiling big at us then we looked at each other and gulped loud enough for Kirsten to hear and then she led us into the auditorium and sat us in front of the stage. What's going to happen to us?!!??!
