Chapter 1

Running is all I know, running is what has been taking up every single second of my empty, dull life. My name is Rosalyn and I have been on the unstoppable run from the 'Unknown', for 18 years now. Both my parents are classified as dead or a lost recovery problem, which stands for their whereabouts are undetected. After my parents died, my Grandmother took me in, and raised me while moving from place to place, undetected by the ‘Unknown’.

Soaking wet, I steadily shoved the doors open to the rotten rundown motel, now currently sheltering me from the thunderstorm outside. Several gasps from bystanders were heard throughout the reception, causing me to glare at the ground, as I headed to a wooden table that was labelled receptionist.

Why do people have to be so rude? I know I look like a psychopath right now in a long black raincoat, but—my thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the small elderly woman sitting impatiently at her desk.

“How may I help you?” she asked as she drummed her long annoying fingernails on her desk.

Frowning, I thought it over before answering.

“A room for one please.” I sweetly answered.

“How long may I ask?”

“Just a night.” I quickly replied, the words swiftly rolling off my tongue. I have to keep on the move otherwise they would find me, I hope grandma was proud.

“Here are your keys, come pay your rent in the morning”, she smiled.

Well then, that was very trusting of her, anyone could run away the next morning without paying their rent, I thought as I twisted the golden knob on the receptionist’s door, and walked away into the night.

Hopping out of the steaming shower and drying myself off, I walked over to my nightstand and clumsily pulled on my woollen pyjama, then attempting to comb through my knotty golden hair. Finishing up for the night, I flicked my bathroom light switch off and padded off  to bed, pulling my cool sheets up to my chest while leaving this cruel world, for another I  have been longing for.
