“C’mon, trade meeee!”
“No!” I shouted, shoving my cousin away from my swing. “Get your own blow pop! This one’s mine.” I greedily clutched it to my chest and turned away from her, shielding the rest of my candy in my lap.
“You’re being such a baby.” She whined. She came around to look at me and I glared.
“If you don’t get away from my candy I’m gonna shank you in the face.” I threatened, narrowing my eyes.
“Shank me in the face?” She echoed, smiling despite her annoyance.
“Yes, shank you in the face.” I repeated stubbornly. I set my candy bag down to unwrap my blow pop and before I knew it, it had been snatched from between my feet. “Give it back!” I shouted, jumping up.
“No!” She took off running across the park and I chased after her, doing my best to keep up in my stiletto boots.
“Ari give me back my freaking candy!” I screamed, sprinting after her. I tripped on a fallen shoe some little kid must’ve dropped and stumbled, dropping my blow pop in the process. I let out a wordless wail as I dropped to my knees. “Ari, you bitch! See what you did?” I picked up the ruined lollipop sadly as Aurelia came to stand beside me. She was out of breath from running so long.
“I’m sorry,” She held my candy bag out and I snatched it from her, standing up and stalking back to my swing. “But maybe you shouldn’t be so clumsy and you wouldn’t drop it.” She laughed as she followed me, then let out a shriek as I whirled and threw the candy straight at her head. It barely missed.
“I’m not clumsy, the grass tried to swallow my heels.” I dropped down in the swing and smoothed out my tiny dress. Considering I was Minnie Mouse for halloween I had certainly managed to turn it quite slutty, which I counted as success on my part.
“How old are you guys? Two?”
Ari jumped as the deep voice came from just beside the playground. I didn’t flinch.
“Who are you?” I deadpanned, staring at the boy in the werewolf mask. He sounded and appeared somewhere between the ages of twenty and twenty three, but it was hard to tell with his entire face covered.
“Who are you?” He casually walked over as Ari backed up a bit.
I watched him suspiciously but didn’t move. It probably wasn’t the best idea to talk to a masked stranger in the middle of a dark park. Especially when it was nearing midnight. But it was Halloween, and the street certainly wasn’t deserted. It was quite populated, actually.
“We should probably go.” Ari muttered, so quietly only I could hear. Or at least I thought. Werewolf boy chuckled and turned to face her as if she had said something amusing.
“You look a bit old to be trick or treating.” He said, and it was easy to see he was checking me out underneath the mask.
“And your costume sucks.” I pushed my straightened to perfection hair over my shoulder. “What kinda werewolf wears spikes and chains and all that shit? A mask doesn’t make a whole costume.”
“Really?” He sat in the swing beside me, lazily lounging across it like it was some type of luxurious armchair. “Well last time I checked Minnie Mouse didn’t dress like a stripper.”
I laughed quietly and glanced at Ari, who shared the same amused look I did. She seemed to relax a bit and came to lean against the pole beside me as I casually swung back and forth. “It’s Halloween, hon. No self respecting girl wears clothes on Halloween.” I finally replied.
