"Very good Yugi." Ra says sweetly as he pats Yugi on the shoulder. "That sense of guilt that you've been feeling this entire time, that undeniable feeling that this whole situation was your fault, is correct."
"Shut your mouth!" I shout. Atem glares at me briefly before turning his anger fueled eyes on Ra. His whole body is trembling with his attempt to control himself as Yugi continues to cry before us. "None of this is Yugi's fault!"
"Yami stop." Atem says softly, his voice dangerously quiet. Ra looks at the pair of us with a very interested expression, his eyes alight with fascination. A sickening smile is on his face as he lets go of Yugi and stares at the pair of us. Yugi collapses to his knees and he clutches at his chest as he continues to cry. Painful, heartbreaking sobs escape him while Ra looks on with a look of disinterest but his eyes continue to glow with fascination and excitement. "My lord, perhaps you could explain what you mean by all of this?" Atem asks smoothly, his voice like silk. "You appear to know something that we do not. And it-"
"Tell me why you are lieing to us!" I storm. "Yugi would never do this to someone. He cares about everyone!"
"Yami enough!" Atem snaps harshly. His eyes have been lit with the flames of anger and impatience as he glares at me, but at the moment I couldn't care less. That smug, golden bastard is making my Yugi cry and that is just unforgivable. For as long as I live, two souls or one, I will never forget this moment or ever forgive the god who caused my love so much pain.
   "Yugi would never-"
"Yami." Yugi sobs quietly, his eyes looking up at me pleadingly. My heart aches at the sight of his mournful expression. "Please don't protect me."
"Yugi." Atem whispers with a pained expression. I feel tears begin to prick at my eyes as he looks at me with those tear filled amethyst eyes.
"This whole situation is my fault."
"That's impossible!" I shout out in protest. "You are the one who made our lives worth living. Do not blame yourself for a situation that no one here can entirely understand!"
"Your devotion and loyalty to this boy is admirable." Ra says seriously, all signs of amusement gone from his face. "But there are several things that you are unaware of." I growl in annoyance as I glance over at Yugi. "Oh, don't worry. Your precious Yugi didn't betray you, everything he did was completely unintentional." He places a gentle hand on top of Yugi's head. Yugi flinches at the touch but makes no move to get away from him. "I suppose in a way, you could say that he was acting on impulse."
"I don't believe a single word." I say harshly as I begin to storm up towards him. My eyes never straying from Yugi. "I know Yugi better than anyone and none of this is his fault."
"And what is your proof to support that statement of yours?" Ra asks coolly, one of his golden eyebrows arching as he stares down his nose at me.
"My love for Yugi is my proof." I say adamantly. Atem blinks in astonishment while Ra simply stares at me with a blank expression, it would appear that nothing that I have said has surprised him. "I know his soul inside and out and I will always believe in the best of him." Ra remains motionless as I kneel down in front of Yugi who makes no move to meet my eyes. "I love him more than anything else in this world or any other world. No matter what I will always believe in him." I gently place a hand under his chin and tilt his face up so then he is forced to meet my eyes. "For better or for worse, he is my light and I wish to always remain in his glow."
"Yami." Yugi whispers through his tears. He grips onto my arm tightly, his fingers holding onto me as if his very life depended on it. "I love you." He sniffles.
"I love you too." I murmur softly as I gently run my thumb across his cheek. "Forever and for always."
"You have been awfully quiet Atem," Ra says with his obnoxiously cheerful voice. "Could it be that you are having some doubts? The doubts that it would appear that your other half doesn't possess." I glance at Atem out of the corner of my eye and see that his entire body is trembling. It almost looks like he can't control himself anymore. Whatever control he had over himself is beginning to wither away.
"Tell me." He says lowly. "Tell me what you know."
"You can't honestly believe him?!" I shout. "It's Yugi we are talking about here."
"I would be more than happy to fill you in." Ra says with a crooked grin. "It's only natural for you to be curious about the incident that has put you in this position."
"Stop messing around." Atem says with a dangerously calm voice. "You have had your fair share of fun, now answer my question." Ra chuckles slightly and claps sarcastically as he slowly walks over to Atem. That lecherous smile is plastered across his face as he circles around Atem.
"I always knew that you were my favorite descendant. Such intelligence and bravery, truly admirable."
"Get to the point." Atem hisses.
"Temper temper." Ra scolds teasingly. "It isn't only Yugi's fault in this situation. It is directly involved with each of your actions."
"What are you getting at?" I ask coolly as I pull Yugi into me, his head resting on my shoulder as he continues to tremble.
"None of you were ever meant to interact with one another. Yugi was never meant to meet you and much less fall in love with you and the pair of you with him." Yugi begins to weep anew. I cradle his head in my hand as I hold him against me securely. "It was his interaction with you that caused for your soul to split. The universe was attempting to accommodate or even, should I dare say, fix the effects of your meeting which resulted in the two souls that now stand before me." He tilts his head to the side slightly. "It was your love for him and his existence in your life that caused for you to split."
"I don't regret it." Atem says coolly. "I would do it again in a heartbeat."
"I'm certain that you would." Ra says disdainfully. "Which only makes the solution to your problem even more difficult."
"What do they have to do?" Yugi asks softly.
"Well Yugi, the solution isn't exactly the best for you." He glances back at my love and I quickly shield him from view. "You see, gentlemen, the only way for you to repair this situation is to separate yourself from the cause of it and then nature will simply take its course." My grip on Yugi tightens exponentially. "If you want to be one once more, you must forget Yugi."
