CHAPTER ONE - OPERATION

"Calling in Pineda, Pineda?"
The voice crackled on the other end of the line, making Gigi perk up. She'd been perched on top of her spot for twenty minutes now, kept crouched low enough for no one to see but high enough so she can see them. The rooftop of an abandoned building was the perfect place for Gigi to hide in before the operation starts.
She shivered. Her college years in England helped her with the cold, but the wind was unbearable in such high heights.
"Elena, you don't have to refer to us by our last names, you know."
Elena Langston, or superhero Multi, was a sure enough troublemaker. She had a lovely sense of humor, but could be childish. Her shape shifting ability came in extremely handy, though.
"I know, Ava, but it's super fun!" She laughed.
Avalyn Pineda sighed. Ava was a girl that walked the line between silly and serious. She was the superhero Khatophris, with the ability to essentially charm speak anyone to do what she said for them to do. However, a charm was put on her amulet so she cannot do so on her team, sadly.
"Stop messing around," Gigi sighed into the walkie talkie. "Langston, Pineda. Protocol."
Elena coughed. "Right. So we are currently on a mission to attack Trevor Res, a crime boss who has been responsible for robbing 17 major banks although out Carson City. Anyway, so our master plan is to have Ava convince the bellhop to give her Res' room number. Then, she'll tell Katy, who'd do some electrical stuff to shut down the surveillance for the final attack. Gigi, you would swoop into the window and deliver a quick and painful hit to Res. After that, we drag him back to our base and our boss will turn him into the S.A.A. It's completely foolproof!"
"I still see a lot of fools in this plan," Katy said from the other end. Ava cackled.
Katherine Russell was the native superhero Miraculous, who had the ability to summon lightning from her fingers, and sometimes intense heat if she wanted. She seemed like Gigi's complete opposite, but in reality she was just as cool, collected, and good mannered as she was. Plus, she was planning on being a doctor. She was practically everything Gigi was expected to be as a child.
"Very funny, Katy," Elena said dryly. "Just...get into your positions. This is gonna be fun!"
Ava grumbled. "She said that about the butter incident too."
"That was Norway's fault, ok? Not mine!" Everyone laughed.
"Shhhh," Ava commanded. Everyone went silent as she turned on the camera attached to her sundress and strolled inside the hotel with a newfound grace and elegance.
Although Ava wasn't a fan of dressing up, it was necessary just for this mission. Her long and curly hair was in a beautiful waterfall braid, and she wore large sunglasses with a floppy hat to conceal her identity. The camera connected to the girl's phones with a beep. Gigi took out her iPhone and saw the view clearly. Ava was already inside, making her way to the awkward looking bellhop.
Based on what Gigi saw in him, she knew he was new. His clothing was too big for him, an obvious hand me down, and he didn't wear the hat like everyone else did. Good, she thought to herself.  This can't be too hard.
"Excuse me," Ava said. The bellhop looked up, a shy expression flushed on his pale face.
It's working! Gigi's mind sang praise to Crenshaw's master plan.
"Um...H-how can I help you, ma'am?" The bellhop stuttered, clearly aghast by Ava. He blushed shyly and smiled at her, teeth white and shining.
"Well, today I'm applying for a job. As a nanny, isn't it exciting?" She paused to let the bellhop nod in enthusiasm. "Anyway, so I'm afraid that my phone has completely broke. I can't seem to find a way to fix it...you understand. I can't seem the room number of my employer! Any chance you can get me his room number? Silly me, making such a dumb mistake."
The bellhop ran his tongue over his teeth. "Well, miss, I would love to. But I'm afraid that is a breach of privacy. I am afraid that I will have to decline..."
"Do it," Katy whispered to Ava.
Ava began to sob, fake tears running from her eyes and smudging her mascara. "Oh no..." She continued sobbing. "There it goes, my job! It's ruined!"
The public stared at her show. This was all going to plan.
Ava just telling him to give the room number seemed to suspicious for the public and other workers. Putting on a show will make it seem more realistic and less suspicious. This was truly a master plan.
"Here it goes..." Elena whispered.
Ava regained herself, a sad tone still hanging in her voice. "Please, just give me Trevor Res' room number."
The bellhop didn't seem entranced or embarrassed, but now robotic. His movements, slow but sure made his fingers fumble on the board.
"Here you go," he said quietly. "Floor six, room seven."
Ava stopped her crying and smiled, tears still in her eyes. "Thanks so much." She shook the bellhop' hand and turned on her heel, making it to the elevator.
Once alone inside, Ava sighed. "Alright, Katy, where are you?"
"Just in the surveillance room. 4th floor, entitled surveillance. You can't miss it."
The elevator dinged and Ava walked out gracefully, took a quick look around the hallway, and slipped into the surveillance room. It was dim and dull, with only the screens covering the walls providing light. There was no furniture aside from a table with controls and two office chairs, one with Katy lounged on. She was clearly bored waiting such a long time, switching from one screen to another.
Ava stepped back, confused about the darkness, and felt a human leg under her shoes. She yelped.
"No!" Katy whispered. "Don't worry, that's the guard."
Ava opened her mouth to speak, but her friend continued. "I had to take them out, so I ended up just giving them a slight electric wave. They'll be awake in a few hours. But for now, let's get started."
"What's up with your outfit?" Ava snickered after seeing her leather clad clothing, complete with knee high boots, jacket, gloves. However, Katy's mask, a hooked birds one, was sitting beside her.
   Katy blushed. "It's just for a cover-up."
"It's tacky," Ava sneered, making her friend's copper skin flush red.
"Let me get on with this. I didn't want to be suspicious, so I waited for you before I did this." Katy cracked her knuckles. "'Might want to step back for this, please."
Ava slid her chair to the other side of the small room as Katy took her two pointer fingers and summoned a little ball of electricity in between her fingers. Ava closed her eyes as Katy touched the keyboard with her orb, a loud fizzing noise ensuing with the cackle of electricity. Then finally, a sizzling noise and the smell of smoke, proving that Katy was successful.
Ava opened her eyes and smiled. All the monitors were off, and the footage gone.
Her friend smiled subtly and pulled up the sleeve of her jacket to speak into the wire, "Shen, now it's your turn."
Gigi saw the clothesline from the building she was on attached to the hotel. The zip line was firmly in her hand, ready for her cue. Now, there it was. She counted six floors up and seven from the left and set her sights on the room, there will just be one lucky drop from the window above. If she botched this, then she would die and the mission will fail.
Gigi took a deep breath and jumped. She felt the wind blow in her hair and her forearms, which were exposed due to the gap between her sleeves and hands. The experience was exhilarating, but now she needed a foothold.
She landed gracefully against the windowsill, her feet finding a comfortable spot to hold her up. She let go off the zip line carefully and placed her hands on the decals around the window. Gigi attempted to lower her foot onto the bottom windowsill, but felt it slip on rainwater.
She helped, and Katy yelled. "Gigi! Are you ok?"
Gigi regained herself, finding a good foothold on the sill. She let her hands lower to the bottom most decal. "Yeah, yeah, I'm fine."
Gigi carefully breathed out, leaving an icy layer over the glass window. With only a moment, she thrust her body onto the window, breaking the ice and glass and sending her tumbling into the hotel room.
She looked up for just a moment, but she knew that the mission was ruined.
