.Chapter 4 ; Yep, I'm Your Long Lost Cousin
* ALLY'S POV *
I hesitated to ring the door bell for a while. It was hard on me, I mean what if I can't convince her to trust that I'm her so called long lost cousin from Ohio? It was definitely something hard to believe. I thought of my first approach and pressed the doorbell. Moments later I heard cracking sounds of locks being opened from the inside. Suddenly a women appeared in front of the door. She had short blond hair with fair skin. She wore a long red detectives coat with matching red flats. She looked at me surprised for a moment which made me a little more nervous than I already was. She then let out out a wide smile across her face. She walked up to me and gave me a huge bear hug. I dropped my bags down due to her intense hugging. She then let me go and said "Ally! You've grown so big! You're a women now! We used to play together!"
"Uh.. Yea, I'm Ally alright" I said weirdly. She looked at me with a puzzled look for a second and I continued saying "Margaret! It's been a long time since we seen each other! You've grown too, and now you're getting married!"
"Yes, I know. Marriage is a lovely thing. Anyway, come on inside! We have lots to catch up on!" And with that she had trusted me and let me in her home without hesitation.
I entered her place and took a look around. She gave me a little tour around her place and finally led me to her living room, where we sat down on the sofa. We started catching up on each other and she showed me lots of photos. She showed me a picture of her husband to be, her mom, her dad, her sister, and mostly everyone in her family.
"And this one here is our grandpapy, remember? We used to go get ice cream together on a hot sunny day. Grandpapy would always take us out. It's a shame that he's gone now..." She said with tears filling up her swollen red eyes.
I tried playing along and continued "he was a great man. He meant the world to all of us. It was so sweet of him to always take us out, despite we were always naughty kids"
"Yea, now that he's gone, I really miss him. I miss the old times where we would spent all of time with each other" he said while staring into his black and white picture.
I glanced at his picture for a while. Just to recognize his face a little. I felt sorry for her as well, and now I'm even pretending to be someone she cares about. I felt terrible. But the show must go on. She then looked up and wiped her stray tears off her wet cheeks and said
"Well, we'll always remember him... So, Ally. I'm glad that your here now. I missed you so much. I don't know what I would do without you, sweetheart"
"Oh Margaret, you're doing fine here. You're even engaged to man! I missed you so much too. I missed the times that we had" I answered solemnly.
"Oh Ally, at least you're here now! I'd love to spend time you. Oh, and I'd love to introduce you to my husband! He should be coming back in the evening. So, how's your mom and dad back in Tennessee?" She questioned.
"Their fine. They have each other, no needa worry" I tried to avoid talking more about me. Afraid that I would slip.
"Oh, great to hear that. And how was Ohio? I heard that you wanted to move her permanently?" He asked me.
"Ohio was fine. But I don't think that it's for me. New York on the other hand, I think is perfectly fine. Plus I have you here with me"
"Sure sweetie, we're always here for you" she comforted me.
I nodded at her and smiled. She continued to speak saying "you remember my sister, Elena right?" She then handed me a picture of her.
I nodded and said "how could I forget?"
"Yea, didn't expect you to forget a brat like her, but she's changed her ways now. She's a perfectly grown women, same age as you, 23. She's working as an architect now. She's doing well I can say"
I glanced at her picture and said "she's beautiful"
She had deep blond hair that feel just above her shoulders. She had big eyes, a sharp nose, she was perfection.
We carried on talking until we heard keys clanging in the door's locks. We turned our heads at the door as we saw a guy come in. Margaret's curious expression quickly turned into a wide smile. She got up from the sofa and hugged the man tightly.
"Welcome home sweetie! You look tired. How was work today?"she said while leaning her arms onto the man's shoulders.
"I'm fine dear. Thank you" he said while pecking her lips.
I felt weird around their presence, so I cleared my throat, hoping to let them know that there was someone there. The man turned from Margaret and faced me. He gave out a warm welcoming smile and said "and you is this young lady here?"
Margaret kissed his cheek and said "oh she's Ally. My long lost cousin. We used to be close when we were younger. She's planning to stay at New York"
I got up and held my hand out for him to shake it. He shook my hand and gave a pleasing nod. He then asked me "hello there, you seem like a nice lady. How's about staying for dinner? We're having roast"
I smiled at him widely and said "sure, if it isn't any trouble"
"Nonsense, Ally. It's no trouble at all. Stay as long as you want to" Margaret chipped in.
I nodded my head and we left for the dining area.
*****
The roast was delicious. It was cooked to perfection. We even had a warm mouthful of home made chocolate cake for dessert. We had a little more chit chat about their wedding plans until it was 10pm. I didn't wanna bother them too much so I offered to leave. They sent me out the door and Mr. Hughes a.k.a her husband to be offered to give me a ride back to my apartment. I declined nicely,I didn't wanna bother them any more. They've given all the hospitality I can get already. Just as I opened the doors of the cab, Margaret stopped me.
"Hey Ally, how's about meeting me tomorrow for lunch? I'd love to catch up with you more"
"Sure, I'd love too" I replied joyfully.
"Great! How's about you meet me at the diners across the block from here tomorrow?"
"Sounds perfect"
