Alone.
That's what it looked like. What it felt like.
There were so many things going on, but not one of them took this feeling away.
The rain fell hard, making the road mist as the cars drove across it. The lights coming off of the busy cars were blurred against the dark, wet pavement.
You wouldn't be able to tell if it was evening or morning out unless you looked at the time. The skywas covered in dark clouds, as if a blanket was shielding the world from something bad.
As I stand here, I notice things that no one else would.
I notice the girl crying as she walks by, no one noticing because they think it's the rain and she doesn't have an umbrella. I notice the couple yelling at each other right inside the café window across the street.
I notice the cars zooming by, swerving a little bit because the road is slick. I notice the little boy holding his mother's hand as she talks on the phone about letting his dad have him for good.
I notice the old lady, sitting alone at a table shielded from the rain, waiting for someone who is never going to come.
I notice all of the sad plastered on everyone's faces. The fake smiles, attempting to cover it up.
I notice the lights from the buildings blurring together, making a picture that you couldn't quite make out. I notice the small whimpering of a dog as its forced to stay outside in this freezing cold rain.
I am standing there, in the dark of world, watching as everyone is being forced into the sadness of each other without even realizing it.
I watch as there's a small stream of light moving quickly across the area, coming closer. I stand there in the freezing rain, just like the dog not but ten feet away, watching as the people walk by as if they can't see the light coming.
I watch as it disappears just as quick as it came, and suddenly, I don't feel so alone anymore.
