Estimates for female foeticide vary by scholar. One group estimates more than 10 million female foetuses may have been illegally aborted in India since 1990s, and 500,000 girls were being lost annually due to female foeticide. MacPherson estimates that 100,000 abortions every year continue to be performed in India solely because the fetus is female.

DIARY OF AN UNBORN

Mama, cant you hear my silent voice?
Grown with seeds of my father
And in your labour I shall ripe
I am your unborn child
But I breathe a life
I do live inside
In your happiness, I rejoice
When you be sad,
Tears fall from my eyes
You know I live in you,
With part of you I share,
But the world outside;
Seem to not appreciate the unknown relation we have

Your little worried
I know the reason why
Morning dad made you visit a doctor
I did see it through your eyes
So dejected and shattered was my dad
Moment doctor said "It's a Girl inside"
Why wasn't he happy?
Where did I go wrong?
Fearing his frown
I push myself deep to hide
But I do feel you cry,
And your stress hormone rise

Sheltered in your womb
Felt so protected, safe and good
To my shock and suprise
Shouted his angry voice,
"Kill the baby before she grows inside"
Like a caged bird,
I am alive but can't fly
Like a prisoner,
Whom gallows awaits time.

Mama, you didn't sleep the entire night
Cursed yourself for not keeping me alive
Don't you worry mama,
I am okay to die
But, I wish, you had another choice
As I'll miss to play in your lap
Lullaby under moonlight for me to nap
Wish I could see how you look like
And embrace you with a smile

I'll never consider you a reason for me to die
As you did what you had to being my dad's wife
In this cruel world,
Same apathy we share
A woman who keeps the world alive
Is always the one who sacrifice..
