Four months ago, the former-former professor of Necromancy was reinstated to his old position. After years of being on the run, chased across the Spiral by a fellow student, trying to bring back his dead wife, he was back. People were skeptical at first, naturally. But they're coming to terms with it.

However, not everyone can be so forgiving.

Theurgists are typically very kind. Very accepting. Very . . . very much the kind of people to think with their heart rather than their mind. However, they can be surprisingly unforgiving, particularly to Necromancers. There's a natural friendly rivalry between all opposing schools. This is beginning to cross that line. Professor Wu has been giving students detention for the things she sometimes hears in her classroom.  She has the other teachers' ears open for nasty comments about the newly returned professor. She doesn't like mean people.

Conjurers are usually somewhat reclusive. They don't tend to hang out in large groups. They are, however, visionaries.  Sometimes, their creative, imaginative visions involve the newly returned professor being accepted like he once was. And, God, are they fierce fighters. I guess it comes from them being the type to face their enemies alone. Partially, at least. Another part of it might come from the fact that their professor is the brother of the professor of necromancy, who he's surprisingly protective of.

Then again, it makes sense. Malistaire is Cyrus's twin brother. They're the only two left of the Drake family, from what I know.

Gloria knocks on her goddaughter's open bedroom door. "Allison?"

The girl looks up from her journal. "Yeah, Aunt Gloria?"

"There's someone who'd like to talk to you."

"Oh. Cool." Allison puts her pen between the pages to act as a bookmark and stands up. "Who is it? Is it about the Spiral key to Celestia? Their libraries are-"

Gloria cuts her off. "No." She purses her lips. "You should just see for yourself."

"I can't believe this

"I can't believe this. Cyrus, look. It has to be a joke. It has to. It doesn't make sense!"

"Malistaire, calm down. It makes perfect sense."

"Maybe to you, Mister Ingenuity."

"Are you really resorting to name calling?"

Malistaire sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"I understand that you're confused-"

"That's not the word I would use, but it's still accurate."

"-but you need to understand that she doesn't need to know."

"How do I know she doesn't know already?"

"Gloria wouldn't do that."

"Wouldn't she?"

"What are you saying?"

"Remember when you went looking for a job as we were graduating? Sylvia went on vacation to visit her family?"
