He's not from here. I kept thinking.
He's an outsider. He's from outside the dome.
I tried to keep my focus as we sprinted away from the explosions.
"A boulder! We can sit on that and rest." He strained out."What's on your mind?"
"You're not from here!" I blurted out.
"How am I supposed to trust you if you don't even wear the correct clothing line provided by the dome?" Mark looked at me shocked.
"Excuse me?" He asked.
"How do I know you won't blow me to bits!?"
"Okay listen, (y/n). What I was doing a few seconds ago was called trying to start a nice conversation! I may not be from here but I do have family to save just like you!"
There was a mist of silence that crept in the winds. "I'm sorry," I muttered quite softly. "I just...I've lost some people and it's hard to trust." Mark stared into my eyes. "I've lost people, too." He spoke. "Right before my eyes, actually."We caught our breath a for few moments and headed out again. "Bomb shelter. We need to find one, now." I ordered. Mark frantically scanned the landscape and pointed towards the south. "Over there. There should be a shelter just a few miles down." I nodded and began to walk. "Wait, we have to walk this whole way?" He whined. I spun around and rolled my eyes. I wasn't in the very best mood to deal with a 27 year old that acted a toddler.
My heart raced as I thought about the future walk the bestowed upon us. "We need to get going." I said, not looking back at Mark. Mark sighed and started to walk to."What family do you have?" I asked, looking at a huge rock ahead. "Well. I have my mom and my stepmom," he answered. I felt something missing in the reply though. "Father?" I asked cautiously. "Uh...no...um. He died when I was younger." I didn't dare look behind. "I-I'm sorry." I said softly. "You're fine. You didn't know."
"Anyone else?" I asked, trying to change the subject. He hesitated before he answered. "Just some other friends I hung out with. But other than that...No."
I realized I hit another touchy subject so I let the main question go.
We were off to the boulder where we can scope out the vast landscape below us...to try to find the bomb shelter where I prayed my family was safely placed in.
