"She was a rainbow, but he was colorblind"

Isabella

A fat rabbit in a circle of hungry wolves.

I guess that's how I can describe how I felt walking down to my locker. The second someone spotted my face, the whispers began. It was like a domino effect. News of my coming-back-to-school travelled down the line of gossip-thirsty kids until every head was focused on me. If it hadn't been my name coming out of their mouths, I would've found it impressive

I remember someone once telling me to cherish my time spent in high school, because I'd never get it back once I left.

The person who made that statement must've either been drunk, or never attended a school like mine.

You see, the thing about Cadence is that it does not have a large student population. Due to that very reason, everyone seems to know everyone else's life story. And if they don't, give them five minutes and they'll be able to tell you all the juicy details.

I shot a glare at every person until their prying eyes looked somewhere other than me. Gosh, I hated being the center of attention. I didn't sign up for this, so why? Okay, maybe I did but still, don't they know staring is rude?

With my Calculus binder and books in my hand, I decided to head to class determined to get away from the judging looks of everyone. Until someone decided it was funny to knock my books to the ground.

I instantly turned around, ready to hurl some pretty nasty insults at Dominic's side chicks. Turns out it was Camille instead, attempting to hop on my back in a form of affection.

Throwing me a cheesy smile, she bent down and picked my binder up for me. "Miss me while you're gone?"

I grinned, "How couldn't I? You're pretty hard not to miss."

It was true too. I'd missed my loud-mouthed, sports loving, freckle-faced best friend during the past month.

We were in the middle of catching up on each other's summer when the warning bell rang.

"Alright Bella, see you at lunch?" she asked.

I rolled my eyes playfully, "I guess you will." She punched my in the arm and left. It was refreshing to have a best friend that knew exactly what to do to make your day better. Even if she annoyed you on most days.

I walked into class greeting my math teacher who I would estimate to be around my grandmother's age.
I didn't pick a seat in the front because if I did, I'd probably feel twenty pairs of eyes burning holes through the back of my head for thirty minutes.

So I made a smart decision to sit in the far left corner in the back of the classroom which proved to be a not-so-smart decision three minutes later. 'Cause Dominic decided to plop his butt right in the seat in front of me.

"Well, well, well, what do we have here? Pretty little Isabella just can't get enough of me can she?"

I focused on my calculus book and ignored his comment, visioning in my mind what it would feel like to slap that smirk right off his face.

Not pleased by my response, Dominic lifted my chin up with his fingers until my eyes made contact with his. "Did your mom not teach you manners? When someone talks to you, you politely answer."
