Chapter Nineteen:

The Island at the End of the World

Rio held Kotone's hair back as she vomited into the sea. They had been sailing for Seven days now (with occasional stops to port islands to stock up) and Kotone had been miserable for all of them. Naoki too was less than chipper as the boat tossed and flailed them about like toys. Suzu and Rio however were as at home on the waves as they were on land, and would raise each other out onto the deck to watch the small pods of small black whales that inhabited the ocean.

Once Rio had thought she saw the shape of a mermaid, swimming right alongside the boat, but she couldn't be sure. Suzu certainly hadn't believed her.

Kotone finished retching and straightened up. "We'll be in Himan tomorrow I imagine."she said through cracked lips. She had said this every day since they got on the ship, but Suzu expected she was right. In the distance, loomed the shape of a great island, with spires reaching up, up, up into the sky.

The Island at the end of the world.

THE END.
