---------------------------------------------------------------------

I held my mom's hand tightly in fear that if I let go, she'd fall apart. My mom liked to bottle up her emotions and let them out when someone pushed her a little too far. That's what she did when she almost lost Cameron as a baby. He had gotten pneumonia and came within feet of those mystical golden gates.

As we walked down the seemingly endless hallway, everything seemed to blur together. Blond and brunette nurses, doctors, and the families of other patients crowded the hallway. The squeals of gurney wheels set me on edge. I feared that the next gurney that flew past us was the one carrying my sister's body. Why would she even try and kill herself? She had an amazing life...well, at least from my viewing.

Callie graduated Harvard university with a PHD and a masters degree at age fourteen. She'd only attended for two years. She was the smartest person I knew. She also was valedictorian in high school and graduated with a perfect 4.0gpa. Then, she became a photographer for National Geographic and was able to travel around the world. I was insanely jealous but I loved her nonetheless.

I felt my mom let go of my hand and we all stood in front of door number 116. Time slowed down as reality came crashing down around us. A sister, a daughter, an aunt, a best friend, a co-worker, and an employee was laying in that bed. She was looking death in his terrible eyes.

"I can't go in..." I heard my mom whisper. A solitary tear rolled down her cheek and I saw her trembling. Will and James opened the door and disappeared inside the room. Callie had always been close with the guys, but never as close as I was--or Alex.

"Yes, you can mom. Callie needs us, including you. I'm sorry mom...You can't break now." I whispered, hugging her tightly. She held me and cried into my shoulder.

"Ty's right, mom. Callie wouldn't want us to give up hope for her. She'd be there for us even if the odds were stacked against us too." Alex said, smiling. I let go of my mom and took my brother's hand. He was right. Callie would be there for any of us even if she had to fly across the ocean.

"Let's go in." I said, pulling Alex into the room with me. The hospital was rank with the smell of Lysol, germ-x, latex, and death. Never ever was it quiet in here.

"Tyler! Alex! Kelly!" My dad hopped up and off of the couch, coming towards us. He hugged Alex and I tightly as if he was afraid of losing us too. I wound my arms around his torso, not wanting him to start crying again. It was obvious he already had. Tears were drying and staining his face like grape juice on a white t-shirt.

"Cam, Tommy, Lily, Riley, and Mandy are here too." He said, moving on to talk to our mother coming in behind us. Cameron was sitting in a chair, his face in his hands. Mandy, his wife, was sitting next to him, her arms around his shoulders. Lily and Riley were sitting on the floor, silent. Thomas was praying quietly in a chair opposite Cam and Mandy.

"Hey Cam..." He looked up and Alex and I and worry was carved into his face. Dark bags were forming on Mandy's face as she stood to hug us. It wasn't rare to have our whole family together. In fact, we got together often. But, to see all of us together in a hospital room was terrifying.

"Hey Ty. How's school?" Mandy asked softly, playing with my hair. Mandy was gorgeous, which made me wonder how someone like Cam could get her.

"Getting all A's, high honors, the usual." I replied, hugging Cam. Thomas came over and hugged me as Cam moved on to give Alex a hug.

Again, the door opened. But it wasn't my mother this time. A nurse with fire red hair walked in, carrying a clipboard and an IV bag filled with O+ blood. My face paled and my vision became spotted. Blood always made me nauseous... Always.

"Who are the parents of Cathrine?" She asked, changing out the empty bag for the full one. My mom and dad raised their hands timidly.

"May I speak with you two in the hall?" She asked, walking to the door. Their bodies disappeared out after the blob of red hair.

----XXXX----

For the past hour, our parents had been out in the hall with the nurse and the rest of us had been sitting in silence. I'd been focusing on the beeps coming from the heart monitor next to Callie's bed.

Suddenly, the beeping stopped and my eyes flew open. No, no, no, no, no! She wasn't supposed to die! She was supposed to miraculously pull through and tell us why she decided to try and take her life. Callie couldn't have just died!

Our mother flew back into the room as if she heard it too. The nurse and our father rushed in after her. I let out a strangled cry and latched onto Will who'd been holding my hand the whole time. He wrapped his arms around me and held me tightly. I heard everyone's cries, the nurses and doctors yelling at each other, and then silence. Only then did I realize I had passed out.

I opened my eyes to see stars...thousands and thousands of stars. Ranging from the brightest purples and blues to the darkest reds, pinks, and yellows. I blinked a few times and fidgeted around before I realized I was laying on thick, bright green grass. Sitting up, I looked around. I was surrounded by the tallest and thickest oak trees I'd ever seen. To make it all weirder, the rose bushes had white roses on them that looked like they were glowing under a black light.

"So you found us, I see." A woman's voice floated out from the trees. I stared into the darkness, hoping I wasn't losing my mind. A beautiful woman with straight, jet black hair and eyes the color of snow. Her skin was creamy white and had no imperfections in it.

"W-Who are you?" I asked quietly, squirming slightly in her penetrating gaze. A boy with matching hair and blue-grey eyes walked up and stood next to her.

"I am Primrose." The woman said, smiling slightly. She held out her hand. "Come." It was a simple, one word sentence. It shouldn't have struck the nerve it did. But, that one word scared me...a lot. I took her hand and followed her into the large tree line, recieving stares from the people that seemed to have appeared out of nowhere.

Whispers laced through the leaves and to my ears. Whispers like 'She has human eyes' and 'What's her choice?'. Of course I had human eyes, I was a human...right?

"P-Primrose, where are we going?"

"The circle." She said simply, smiling. I stared at her incredulously. Did she forget something? Uh, like the fact I've never been in this place before. My subconscious told me I was asleep and slowly going insane. My reality said I was in a pretty kick-ass place.

"What circle?" I asked slowly, looking up at the woman with snow colored eyes. She laughed and it reminded me of a tinkling bell. We walked a little further into the woods and a large fire surrounded by people came into view.

"That circle." She said, ending her sentence in yet another smile. As we approached the circle, all eyes were on me and the only sound was that of the fire crackling. Pairs of eyes in every color of the rainbow landed on me. The blues, greens, and browns didn't bother me. It was the purples, the yellows, and the bright, inhuman colors that scared me.

"Now, you have to pick your choice." Primrose said, ushering me into the middle of the circle, pushing me towards the large fire. My eyes grew large but gasps circulated throughout the rows of onlookers.

"Do that again." The boy that had been walking next to me said, motioning forward. I was thrust forward and I fell into the flames.
