Chapter 2

"Thalia, Thalia! Come quickly." I heard the commanding urgent voice and I knew what would come next.

I opened the door and walked in. It was an odd feeling knowing that this would be the last time you ever saw your mother.

My father had put her on the bed now.

My mother smiled at me as I sat down and held my hand tightly.

"Thalia Gemini Sage you were born under a great star you know that, from the minute I held you in my arms I knew. I knew you were born to shine, my little gem."

She lifted her other hand and held Alaric's tightly "Forever, my love." She smiled at him, it was a promise.

"It's time, I feel it the moon is coming. I love you both so very much. Remember what I told you, you must never forget, when the moon comes to take you she isn't killing you she is simply setting you free. Don't see this as a loss because you are never alone and will never be alone." She smiled before her breath slowly became ragged and her hands limp with any sign of life slowly drained from her eyes and yet even then there she lay, the most beautiful woman I had ever known, my mother.

And even death itself couldn't take that away from her. She had left the world just as she had entered it.

Beautifully.

I continued staring until my vision became cloudy letting the tears fall, even then I made no sound. I felt like I would never make sound again, what was there to talk about, what was there to laugh, there was only sadness now.

A hand was placed over my mother's forehead Alaric took deep breaths it was as if he was trying to calm himself and take control, before he would crumble and fall.

"Your fight is over may you find peace with the moon, she will keep you safe and protect you now." His voice was strong, commanding, the voice of an alpha.

He then bent down pressing his mouth to her ear "Wait for me my love." He whispered his voice was no longer strong nor commanding his voice was broken and a tear had escaped too.

The ritual of passage for the dead to continue the journey to the other world where the moon would keep them safe.

The hardest part of losing someone is not saying goodbye, but rather learning to live without them. Always trying to fill the void the emptiness inside your heart when they go.
-unknown.

I wondered if they believed a human could even enter a place such as that. But I said nothing my mother believed so why should I ruin this for her? A human mate was rare, a human Luna was none existent. The whole human, wolf relationship was deeply frowned upon. Their offspring's were the damned unfortunate souls of beasts and man, not really fitting anywhere they would often become crazy it was said. They would be too weak to be part of a pack unable to shift and too strong to be a human. They would have no place in the world the elders often taught, it would be a cruel act to bring them into a world such as this.

My mother couldn't have any more children so the pack didn't have to worry about such things. I was the first and last child my mother had.

The 'child of love' created by Christopher Josef Adams and Celeste Amalia Sage my mother would often tell me. But I was no child of love I knew that much.

I never believed in the moon they called her their goddess or any other nonsense that came with her but it felt soothing knowing my momma would be happy to have this ritual, she was after all the first human Luna. She was loved and respected by every member of the pack and in return she devoted her life to the beliefs and ways of the creatures of the night.
