Vulcan hurled another fireball at the wall of water rushing towards him.
It cut through most of it but the torrent was too much and the fireball only delayed the cascade from slamming into him.
Once the water had again receded Vulcan climbed to his feet mostly drowned, she was toying with him.
He was about to curse but instead coughed up sea water.
“You know, it’s kind of fun doing this,” the girl with pink hair shouted over from behind the wall of water. “It’s great how you keep getting up; I haven’t ever had such a good practice dummy,”
Vulcan coughed again, no water this time, “good” he muttered before standing up straighter.
He glanced to his right; Tornado dived to avoid a hail of rocks that fell from the sky, the debris piercing the sand like daggers.
“I may have had it easy then,” Vulcan muttered summoning flames into his hands again.
“Again? When will you learn?”
Vulcan laughed “I have to figure your weakness out eventually, sorry I’m a slow learner, and it must be pretty obvious!”
“What?” The girl look puzzled for a moment, before she could snap back to reality Vulcan lunged forward, sprinting across the sand as fast as he could. The girl reacted quickly enough, he had barely reached halfway, but that was further than he had reached so far.
The water however, was sluggish, and she was not used to him getting this close, the first volley missed completely, he didn’t even need to dodge. The second was closer, Vulcan dived forward and rolled to his feet, hands still out by his sides clutching the flames, but the flames had already doubled in size and were growing rapidly.
By the time she had finally got her aim in Vulcan was almost at the water wall.
The wall expanded to engulf Vulcan and throw him back. But as it reached him his arms shot forward and launched two streams of fire into the wall. Vulcan ran with them. Vaporising the water in front of him and breaking through. The rest of the water fell upon the spot he had been.
The girl looked stunned as Vulcan burst through her defences. Vulcan didn’t hesitate, she could control the ocean and they were at the beach. He leaped through the air, flames flared around his clenched fists.
As he landed he brought his fist down into her face, advantage of being the oldest chosen heir, Vulcan thought. Was the military training he received before going into stasis.
As soon as his fist impacted, he stepped to the side slightly and jabbed her in the stomach twice in rapid succession, using speed and power to keep her off balance. She reeled with every strike, occasionally the water managed to whip at him, but Vulcan kept up the pressure and charged through every strike.
He regretted hitting her; she seemed much less of an annoying person compared to the surfie.
But she was attacking him, he had to do it.
He was a soldier. Feelings came later.
Suddenly Vulcan felt something slam into his chest. Then he found himself lying on his back, covered in sand.
“Oh no,” he muttered. He tried to move but the sand was rock solid. It wouldn’t budge.
He raised his head; the girl was struggling to her feet slowly. She looked shaken and injured. In the background the Surfie dived to the side as a wall of air shot past him.
