⇒Prologue

Michonne pushed through the sticks, branches breaking under her feet. Her sword was tucked neatly into her belt. She was alone, with no de-jawed walkers behind her.

She stopped to take a drink from her almost empty water bottle when she heard movement. Not rigid footsteps on the ground from walkers, but a swift movement from the trees.

Michonne curiously looked up to see a small girl, with fair skin and dark hair, standing in the branches. The girl, who seen Michonne from yards back, shared eye contact.

"What are you doing up there?" Michonne asked.

The girl shook her head, her eyes wide. She placed a finger to her lips, motioning Michonne to keep her voice low. The girl pointed to a couple yards behind Michonne on the ground. A rigid footstep sent a shiver up Michonne's spine.

"How many?" Michonne asked.

The girl looked away, only for a second, and responded by holding up two fingers.

After a long minute, the walkers came into view, seeing Michonne and coming toward her. Michonne didn't move away, but instead pulled out her sword and slicing through both of their brains.

The girl smiled from the tree and climbed down. She was very quick and her movements were slick, like she moves through water.

"Are you alone?" Michonne asked the girl as her feet hit the ground.

She only nodded in response.

"What's your name?" Michonne asked again. "I'm Michonne. I can help you." Michonne has always had a soft spot for children, and this girl is alone and probably starving.

"Aiden." The girl replied. It had been her first words in a long time.

The darkness was overwhelming. The only light that was received was from her moms. They always tried to make the best of a bad situation, even though this situation was worse of all.
Her mother had come from Denmark, and spoke fluent Danish, and so had Aiden. Her other mother was American, and didn't understand a word of Danish when they spoke it, making them laugh. They were happy even in times of trouble.
Until one night, when Aiden woke up in their campsite to see them both being eaten by the infected.

So when Michonne asked her next question, "where are your parents?", Aiden kept quiet.

Michonne understood and said "Forget I asked that. Thanks for warning me about those."

Aiden smiled and nodded as a "your welcome."

"Michonne, there's a saying we used to say." Aiden said as they walked further into the trees. They were together. They were no longer alone, they already walked as one. "Kan dit hjerte være venlig , dit sind hård, og din ånd modig. Roughly translated, it means 'may your heart be kind , your mind fierce, and your spirit brave'."

And that's all she had to say.
