I am the Demon Hunter

Night 12

My heart sinks and I feel like I can't breathe. My mother is alive. The woman who raised and loved me is alive. The woman I thought to be dead.

" Mother... You're alive...how..?" I say, the words caught in my throat and tears burning my eyes.

Kara steps towards me and I grip my dagger.
" You're mother never died. We knew you would eventually find out about who you really were. We needed to make you hate the demons. The only way was to kill your parents. Those demons who attacked that night were just a coincidence, although a lucky one. Your father did die that night but by a miracle your mother survived. We sent her to another fort so you would't find out." She says with a smile on her face.

" No... This can't be true." I say, tears burning my eyes.

" Too bad you didn't stay loyal. Joanne, kill her. "

I look over quickly to Joanne. The woman whom I looked up to, who i loved, even now. I could barely move but when i saw she had little restrain I forced myself to move. She hit me with her sword which I blocked with my dagger. The metal grabbed at each other and her sword slides down to the hilt of my dagger.

I try to hold push against her sword but the dagger falls out of my hand onto the ground. I look up to Joanne.

" Mother... Please... Don't do this!" I plead to her.

" I'm sorry Rize, I must remain loyal to my kind."

My kind. Those words hit me hard. She no longer considered me her child? Maybe I never was. I feel my heart shatter and the anger I have been feeling since a few days ago consumes me.

I summon my staff and the moon stone glows brightly. A field of light expands over the area pushing out all the hunters. The field solidifies into a glass-looking wall. Mages appear from behind the glass and point their staffs at the wall. They begin working to break down the wall.

" Go now!!!! " i yell to my father and the rest of the demons behind him. They begin rushing in and I follow behind still holding my focus onto the wall. Cracks appear on the surface of the glass. I look to the other side and see Kara and Joanne. In that moment I had said a goodbye to my human side. Forever.

Everyone is able to get inside and soon it is just Father and I.

" My daughter. I must seal the gate. So that it may never be opened again, but to do so I must give back the power once given to me by our fellow demons and more. " I let go of my focus on the wall and cracks begin to widen. I focus on my father instead. He places his hand on my shoulder and I see love through his eyes. A love I had never experienced before. Not from my adopted parents. This was a warm comforting love and it made me content.

" When i seal this gate, I will die. I have long overlived my life. It's time for me to go. Being able to die doing this, it makes me truly happy. I know you will be a fine ruler, you are my daughter after all. "

Evon runs up to me, panting.
" Everyone's safe." He says.

My father turns to Evon.
" Be kind to my daughter. If you betray her in any form, i'll come back from the afterlife and kill you myself. "

Evon gulps, but I see the look of strength in his eyes as he nods. Father smiles. Father turns back to me and before he points his staff at the door he gently kisses me on the head.

Evon and I back up from the door and I watch as the hunters crowd the door. The light of father's staff pushes them back as they try to reach us. The door begins to creak and I can already see the toll it's taking on father.

Tears slip from my eyes and Evon grabs my hand and I push myself into his arms. A few seconds pass, and yet it feels like hours. When I look back up the door has closed and I can see the stone binding together in a seal. Father is on one knee. Several demons gather around, a few sniffling.

The seal finishes with a blast and my father falls to the ground. The orb on his staff breaks and soon disappears. I run to him and hold him to me. He smiles and brushes my face before his eyes close. The dam inside me breaks and all the emotions of the past few days break free.

I cannot help the tears that run down my face and Evon hold me to him. The demons standing behind us hold out their hands and Evon and I do it too. A stone like material begins to form around my father. Its almost blue and soon it completely seals my father in what seems to be a rock.

I put my hand down and lean against Evon. The demons grab my father and lift him up.

" Princess, would you like to lead?" A wolf demon asks me. I nod and walk foward. Evon guides me and we walk down a hill. We end up at the bottom and my breath is taken back. The demon world is stunning. Rolling hills are seen in the distance and a whole world works in the time we were gone.

A path leads down to what seems to be the village. In the distance I can see a person running up to us. A demon that resembles Evon runs up to us.

" My son! Oh my boy! You have returned! " the man yells as he runs up to Evon and hugs him. Evon hugs him back.
" It has been far too long, Pops." He pats him on the back with a wide grin.
Evon's father looks at me.
" You must be Rei. I'm Kino, The king's advisor. " Kino says to me bowing his head. "
I bow my head back. " how did you know me? "
" I was able to communicate with the king through a special stone. " he says with a smile. " Where...?" He looks over to the stone my father is encapsulated in."
" King..." He says with his hand over his mouth. He looks over to me." i'm very sorry for your loss."
" And I for yours, I'm sure my father meant a lot to you, and you to him."
" thank you. I'll guide you to the cemetery" He says.

I nod and we walk down the path. Demons litter the streets, some in shock, others crying. We walk towards the castle in the distance. As we get closer we turn in the path and walk to a hill where a hole resides. We go into the hill and hundreds of blue stones sit in pits in the ground.

Wolf Demons quickly dig a pit and the other demons lower father into the pit. Kino begins chanting something and demons fall into a chant. I sit there and listen as we honor my father and his time as King.

Kino told me that Father took a few hundred demons up to the human world with him but once they had gotten out, the DHO came out and began trying to seal the gate and kill off the remaining demons. My father told him to ensure peace was kept in the demon world and he would return. The DHO could not seal the gate so instead they decided to guard it with magic. Father had become determined to take the human world for his own after hearing about Sera's  death. It was only till I appeared did he realize it was time to return to our world for good.

A ceremony was held to name me as Queen of the Demon World and a wedding would be held later for Evon and I, but I decided it would have to wait. My situation was explained to all demons of how I was raised by the DHO and lied to. I then found the families of all the demons I had killed and went to each and every single one and apologised in person. I told them I was sorry for what I had done, as I truly was, and that I could not do anything to repay them for their loss, but that I had hoped my apology was some comfort. I also apologised in public to all families who lost someone to those killed by the humans, but that they fought bravely getting back home.

A few months later Evon and I were married. He was crowned and although he felt he wasn't worthy I assured him he would be a good king. I offered his mother and father to stay at the castle, but they politely refused.

A hundred years passed and Evon and I had 2 daughters and a son to ascend the throne. We lived in harmony and ruled our home until our eventual step down from the throne, where our Son took his place as King. We watched many generations grow up until finally Evon passed away at the age of 122.My son and two daughters held my hand as I passed at the age of 124.I now watch over our world along with Evon, Father and the past rulers of this land.
