Bang! Bang! Bang!
The shotguns echoed across the landscape. One boy, shaggy bangs covering his eyes, said quietly, "A bit more to the left, Hayami-san."
BANG!
The bullet hit dead center, not even a millimeter out of line.
"Thanks, Chiba-kun," replied the shooter, a lithe girl in her teens. Reddish orange hair spilled over calculating green eyes as she aimed for her next target. While she aimed, Chiba stole a glance at her from the corner of his hidden eyes.
She's totally in the zone. He thought. Man, she's so cool. The sniper blushed. How long can he harbor his feelings? Should he confess? But what if she doesn't feel the same? He sighs.
"Nufufufufu!" cackles a very large, very annoying yellow octopus. "Your accuracy is dead on, you might even succeed in killing me!"
Both snipers twirl to face their target, firing simultaneously. Korosensei dodges each shot. Suddenly, he zips behind them and places a tentacle on each of their shoulders.
"You're good, but are you good enough?"
Chiba and Hayami collectively shiver. We've gotten better, but he still dodges like it's nothing!
Hayami sighs and fiddles with her shotgun.
Dammit. She's cute.
*********
Shifting from foot to foot, Chiba breaks into a nervous sweat. He and Hayami planned on training together this afternoon, a perfect place for him to confess. Said sniper runs up to meet him.
"Ready to start, Chiba-kun?" she asks. He nods his head. OK, now's my chance!
"Uh... Hayami-san... I, um, can I tell you something?"
"Sure," the girl says. She's distracted, though, loading her gun. Chiba doesn't notice.
"Er, Hayami-san... I-I like y-y-you!"he stutters out.
"Darn. No, no, no!" exclaims the non-observant sniper. Chiba looks at her, his heart crushed.
"Alright, I'll just be going, then," he whispers, head lowered as he trudges away.
A couple minutes pass before Hayami looks up again. "Finished! The magazine was giving me a hard time and -" she looks around. "Chiba-Kun? Where are you? Chiba-kun?"
Hayami -
Chiba, her sniping partner, hasn't trained with her for three days now. He hasn't even spoken to her.
He's avoiding me.
Hayami sighs. Even when they first stared training together, she loved having that after school practice. No parents. No teachers. Just the gun, the target, and him. Chiba. She misses what they had, even if it never progressed...
I'm going to approach him at lunch. she decides.
"Hi, Chiba-kun," the orange haired girl says. The boy jumps, spilling some of his rice. "Oh, sorry. Just wanted to ask you something."
"Uh, sure," he replies.
She takes a deep breath. "Chiba-kun, why don't we train any more? You've been avoiding me for a while."
The poor guy mumbles something under his breath.
"What was that?"
"I said: I thought it would be awkward after I told you I like you and you turned me down," he says a bit louder.
"When did I turn you down?" Hayami asks.
"You were loading your shotgun, I told you my feelings, then you blew me off."
"Oh," she blushes. "I must not have heard you."
Chiba gets up and says, "Whatever, you don't really like me so - "
"Hold it. Who said I don't like you?"
He startles. "So... you'll have me?"
"Of course," Hayami kisses him on the cheek. "I just wasn't paying attention the first time."
Chiba blushes. Dammit. She's cute.
