Damien was in shock. His body numb, mind racing, it had actually worked! He just killed someone. The very thought made him nauseous. He looked around and realized the whole street had just witnessed him commit murder. I need to leave now he thought desperately, and get to the space port.

He started sprinting through winding the streets and alleyways. After about an hour he stopped winded behind the same whore house he sat before. Damien sat down and started thinking about what he would do, when the man called Dedrick stepped out of the shadows.

“So how does it feel?” Asked Dedrick smiling

Damien started weeping,

“Aw damn it. I thought you might be something special.” Said Dedrick turning to leave.

“Wait.” Whispered Damien,

“Oh?” Said Dedrick smirking but still not facing Damien.

“Let me come with you please.” Said Damien desperately hoping against hope that he’d say yes.

“And why would I do that?” Asked Dedrick mockingly.

“Because I saw you kill too!” screamed Damien furious.

“Oh really. Maybe I’ll have to fix that problem.” Said Dedrick pulling his gun and putting it to Damien’s head.

“Go ahead.” Said Damien coldly

“Interesting.” Said Dedrick cocking his head and smiling. “Fine I’ll give you one chance. If you can stow away on any ship in the spaceport without getting caught, I’ll pick you up. But if you get caught you’re on your own. And if you decide to try, you will be following the way of the shadows. That means you will kill. You cannot love, love is a noose. And remember life is empty; life is meaningless; when you take a life you take nothing of value. Well see ya kid.” Said Dedrick as he melted into the shadows…

Damien stepped out from behind the whore house to come face to face with Zack and Kayla. "What are you doing here?" stammered Damien.

"We're your friend you didn't think we know you'd be here? Any did you really do it?" replied a very excited Zack.

Damiens face fell. "I'm sorry guys, but this is the last time you see me goodbye." Sad and depressed he started walking into the crowd.

"Wait."

Damien stopped and looked back not recognizing the voice.

“Please don’t leave.” Kayla said

Damien turned and continued walking into the shadows with a face full of tears. He melted into the crowd with here voice saying please don't leave replaying in his head. How could see have spoke shes a mute. He pushed the thought out of his head. He needed to find somewhere that he could just sit and think in peace.

After a couple hours of walking Damien made his decision. He would go to the space port. He was sick of being weak, cowardly, and looked down upon. He wanted to be like Dedrick nobody ever messed with him thought Damien.

Damien racked his brains thinking about how he could stow away without being caught. The easiest and simplist solution would be to just hide in a crate, but it was also very risky he thought. After hours of trying to think of another way he realized he'd just have to settle for the crate, but how to get in one without being noticed he thought?

He wandered into the spaceport. The spaceport was crowded, no matter where you looked it had life bumbling around. Damien started panicing, how the hell could he hide in a crate if people are everywhere, and on top he just spotted cops questioning people with a poster of him. He'd need a distraction, but what?

"Stop! If you move we shoot!" screamed a cop standing right behind Damien.

The blood drained out of Damiens face as he felt a warm moist river running down his pants leg, as he slowly turned around.

"Get down!" yelled the officer firing at a figure running through the port. The cop fired three shots in quick sucession, missing and having the super heated shots of plasma slowly melt the metal where it hit.  The figure ducked behind a crowd of panicing people.

It was then that Damien realized it was now or never, he ran and dived in the first box he saw barely able to believe that he could be this lucky. He held his breathe in antipation of being caught. As he slowly counted the seconds. The seconds turned to minutes. Time tickled down the stream of life until, finally he felt the box he was hiding in shift as it was being loaded.

He completed the first part, of his journey, but now he was left with the anguish of not knowing, and fear of what came next. What awaited him in the next hour, the next day, the next week? And where would he end up? He didn't even know what ship he was on or the destination. What he did know is what was coming would come and he'd have to meet it when it did, no matter how horrible. Either way he couldn't get out of the ship the same way he came in. People would see him, he thought his best chance would be to just run the moment it touched down.

The next few days he spent mentally fortifing himself, and eating moldy cheese and dirty water from some of the other crates.
