The car drive was hauntingly silent. Nobody said a word. The only sound I could hear were the sniffles as Kaitlin tried to control her tears by my side. I was the one driving, as Kaitlin cried silently beside me. It was hard for me to watch, seeing as Kaitlin was practicly the closest thing I had to a friend here.
As we drove I thought back to how we met- Obviously through me gettting a job at her coffee shop.
I was five months pregnant at the time, so my belly wasn't at its fullest yet, but its not like I could hide it any longer. And I needed a Job if I want to make it on my own in this city. Since I was recently fired from my wonderful job at Walmart. Why I was fired? God only knows.
I was walking along the paved sidewalk watching people rush past me every once and awhile, I mean, this wasn't the busiest neighbourhood around... I tried to find a nice place without to many people, but I knew there would still be a fair amount of poeple wherever I decide to go. It's New York for goodness sake! Obviously theres going to be people!
A boy around my real age suddenly rushed past me and bumbed into me. Hard. I toppled over and had to catch myself before I fell on my stomach and hurt my baby. I don't know what I would do if something happened to my baby. I loved my baby so much already it was crazy.
The boy ran past me without even stopping to see if I were okay or even apologizing. Rude. I got up preparing to scream at the unknown boy when I saw it. Just a simple sign on a door that read 'Now Hiring'.
I nearly screamed in joy and walked through the doors in a daze. Not even knowing where I was until the intense smell of fresh made coffee I loved so much hit my nose. Then I knew, I was in a coffee shop.
I walked up to the front desk while admiring the little shop. It was cute with it's chocolate brown and beige walls, round wooden table that sat up to four people and some plush seats in the corner that I was just dying to sit on. Painting's were hung up all over the walls and the lights were dim. It gave me a welcome feeling. The feeling of home. And at that moment I knew I had to get a job at this wonderful place.
"Ma'am? Are you going to order?" A girl who looked to be in her late twenties asked me, startling me and bringing me out of my reverie.
"Oh.. Um.. Sorry, actually I was wonderig about getting a job here?" I ssaid, stating it as more of a question. The woman looked me over with a bored look as she noticed my bely she raised a eyebrow at me but didn't comment.
"Kate!" She screamed out to the back of someones head and the girl whipped around and smiled a huge smile, asking what was up to the barista, "Preggo wants a job."
My eyes widened at her blunt comment about my condion and the Kate girl who I assumed was the manager frowned at the barista in a dissapointed and annoyed way. "Sarah! How many times do I have to tell you not to call me that! And apologize to that poor girl, you couldn't be a little more compassionate?" The lady snapped at Sarah and I gave a timid smile as the Kate lady turned to me.
"Sorry." Sarah said without interest and the manager/Kate lady rolled her eyes.
"Ignore her. I guess it's her time of the month. Follow me dear. And we'll see about that job you wanted..." She said and began walking towards a small room in the back that I assumed to be the employee's room.
Once we were settled she crosse her legs and smiled at me warmly and I felt my nerves die down. I could tell this woman was nice and she made me feel welcomed.
"Hello there, I'm Kailyn... And i'm going to ask you a few questions staring with.... How old are you sweetie?" She asked in a motherly tone, although thhis woman looked like she couldnt be a day passed 25.
