Sophia had been driving, Zayn, Perrie, Melissa and Travis riding passenger. The dark of night had taken over and they had been driving for hours upon hours. Zayn was tired of it, he wasn't sure if Sophia had been leading them to greatness or doom. The latter seemed more fitting, it was raining, they were far off from civilisation and they were riding along the outskirts of some farm.
"Why won't you tell me why we're in the middle of no where with your retard friends?" Zayn shouted . He pushed Perrie's legs from atop his own, having enough of Travis and Melissa's snickers and giggles.
"Uh...screw you Zayn, you can't call us that." Travis defended, smile still present on his face. He and Melissa just couldn't stop, they hadn't ever since the car first pulled out of the school lot. Zayn had had enough, Perrie had had enough, she had faced them even longer though, as they'd picked her up from her school across town earlier on.
"Why not Trav." Zayn scoffed. "Look at you guys, it's like a retard convention in here." Their faces went blank and their smiles faded in the slightest, Zayn had struck a nerve.
It was Travis's least favourite phrase, he'd been taunted with it before, called out by course instructors even for his lack of awareness and or common sense. He was more than he seemed though, just too tapped into popularity to show his true colours.
Melissa lit a joint, rolled up in that thin, brown rillo paper from the petrol station. It was neatly rolled, 'pearled' they called it when it looked that good. She took it to her red lips, taking a drag before blowing the smoke from her nose and sitting back, ready to see where this batch took her. Perrie coughed a bit and rolled the window down, complaining about how she wasn't a manky fool who stooped as low as 'hot-boxing' for a good time.
"This was our idea too Zayn." Melissa said, sending more smoke out, but from her lips this time. The scent was pungent and foul all at once, even with the windows down, it seemed inescapable, crawling up one's being and invading the most personal and intricate places. Perrie didn't fancy it, not one bit.
"What do you mean?" Zayn questioned and Sophia shouted over Melissa who rolled her eyes and brought the joint to her lips once more.
"I want it to be a surprise." She declared, finally turning into the farm that seemed to stretch on forever and ever.
"What does this have to do with Niall Horan?" Zayn tried his luck.
"You said that you wanted us to do something about him.....so we came up with something to do." And the car slowed, Melissa stared doubtfully before crushing the fire hot cherry of the joint between her thumb and index finger to save for later.
Travis looked the place up and down, walking with Sophia and Melissa to the boot of the car. They fetched a ladder and a sledgehammer, tossing Zayn a red bucket. Perrie frowned at this all, still unsure of the goal, but coming up with some sort of conclusion within her mind.
The laughter returned when the group stumbled upon some mural that seemed to go on forever, sheep, pigs, cows and all the animals of the barnyard painted along the length of it. Travis shouted things like 'look at the little piggy' and Melissa egged him on, squealing and miming the sheep and the cows when he drew his attention to them.
"What're we going to do? Collect chicken eggs?" Zayn inquired flatly. He was fed up with the secrets that they had kept so well. Sophia laughed and shrugged him off, she had held her tongue longer than ever, it must have been phenomenal 'it better have been.'
The rain persisted even still, soaking the teens who were careful to avoid the grass and circumspect to stay single file. Sophia stopped suddenly, tilting the ladder upright with assistance from Travis and Melissa who helped her up, cautious to still her as the ladder was wet and a slip up was nearly guaranteed.
They took turns, helping each other up one-by-one until everyone was over the [garden wall] brick wall with the expansive mural that as previously stated, seemed to go on forever. Zayn looked around. He even still found himself lost. What did pigs have to do with Niall Horan. He quirked a brow, yeah they looked like him, but what did that matter really?
"Zayn pick one...pick one that looks like him." Zayn chuckled, it was like Sophia had been in his mind. He pointed to the smallest pig, alone by himself and resting among slop.
Travis and Melanie called out to the pigs, running at them and taunting them in every other way. It was a terribly coordinated plan of action however, it made the mass of swine flee. Sophia handed the hammer to Travis and he looked to it, bringing the cold steel to his lips and promising that he'd bash its head in quick and easy. Only it never came and he relaxed the instrument, looking back to his friends who stared at him expectantly.
"What are you waiting for man....get her done, get her done!" Zayn encouraged, now fully on board with what he knew of the plan. Perrie looked away, sighing in relief when she heard Travis mumble about how he couldn't do it. Zayn snatched the sledgehammer and pushed him back, sending it a similar kiss before bringing the tool up above his head.
"Do it! Do it!" Sophia chanted, voracious and ravenous, wanting to see blood spilled. It reminded Perrie of a simple proverb, how the world was ripe with others looking to spill your blood. Much like the chanting girl, the boy with the hammer and the innocent little pig.
Swiftly, Zayn brought the hammer down. And it was swift really, letting that pig squeal out its last breath for the fraction of a second that the horrid noise existed. Sophia had stopped with her chanting, breathing heavily whilst Zayn gazed down at the mess he had created. He slid his hand into the side of his boot, grabbing the knife that he kept on himself for protective reasons and he tossed it to Melissa, knowing that Perrie's stomach was too weak for the job and deciding that Sophia had her share for the night, even though her insatiable appetite grew evermore.
Melissa caught the blade with ease, flipping it open and looking to the pig just as Zayn had done moments ago. She concentrated, stilling her mind that had been off in other dimensions when her services weren't required. She was high, laughing at little things, slightly fidgety, but unwilling to disappoint. Zayn coaxed her, knowing that she could perform the task, but weary on the fact that she had barriers that could prevent her from meeting newfound expectations. Melissa didn't take a breath as she brought the knife down, still hearing Zayn's motivations that suddenly came to a halt when she slid the knife back and caused an eruption of blood. It was like tapping into a tree, once it started going, it didn't seem to have the will to stop.
Blood made its way onto the faces of those who were close enough and Melissa gasped, seeing how it splatted in such an unpredictable way. It was like nothing that she had ever seen before, nothing that any of them had ever seen before; blood of a swine, foul in stench, foul in feel. Travis praised her, bringing her in for a kiss as the knife at her side dripped blood.
