1 week later

I grabbed the packing tape off of my desk and sealed the last of my boxes. Looking around my room I saw that I only had three boxes left to put in the moving van and then I would be able to help Alec. I grabbed two of the boxes and headed downstairs.

"Are you done?" Alec asked as I reached the open front door.

"Yeah. Do you need help with anything?" I asked as I set down the boxes.

"Nah I'm good I finished earlier. I was just helping Emily with her boxes since she had to finish stuff at HQ."

I smirked. "Well aren't you a good little boy?"

He shrugged. "And aren't you a lazy little girl."

I shoved him playfully. "Shut up I had a lot of things to pack where you only had like four boxes and your bed."

"Actually five boxes, a dresser, and my bed." He said as he shoved me back gently.

"Okay well let me grab my last box and then we can go meet mom at HQ." Alec nodded and took my boxes to the moving van. I went back to my room looking around one last time and closed my door. Going outside the house I walked towards Alec's car and put my box into the trunk. Alec gave the moving van driver the address to our new house. As they were talking I pulled out my phone and texted my mom.

Just finished loading about to head to HQ. Are you ready?

Birth giver : I'll be done by the time you get here. Everything going okay so far? Are you and Alec alright?

I smiled. Mom is always worrying about us. Yes. Don't worry.

Birth giver: I'm a mother it's my job to worry.

I turned my phone off and slid it into my back pocket. "Okay see you there at 11am tomorrow man." Alec said as the driver pulled out of the driveway and speeded off. He nodded towards me and we got into his car.

"So what did Emily say?" Alec asked as we headed towards HQ.

"She'll be done by the time we get there."

"Alright. Sucks that she still has to work on her last day."

I nodded. "Yeah but she is head of the council so she's still busy."

We stayed silent for the rest of the drive and even when we were waiting for my mom outside of HQ. Looking out the window I saw my mom heading towards us with her few boxes of office supplies. I got out and took some of her stuff to put in the trunk. We finished and got in the car. When we were settled Alec turned on the car and we headed towards Oregon.

After the first couple of hours just reading my book and drawing on a new notebook Alec had given me I dozed off.

~4 hours later~

"Lily wake up we're here at the convenience store. Do you need or want anything?"

"Get me a blue slushy and some gummy worms." I mumbled sleepily.

He laughed. "Alright tiger lily."

He closed the door and headed inside with my mom. I sat up and looked around the parking lot. It was pretty much empty except for one other car besides ours. I guess it was pretty late since we had left but something felt off . I wonder how much longer it would be? Getting out of the car I headed inside to find my mom in the chip aisle. "Do they have any Pringles?" My mom mumbled to herself. I shrugged and looked with her. She sighed.

"Looking for these?" We both turned towards a short chubby man in a dirty red flannel holding a can of original Pringles.

"Oh yes thank you." My mom said as she reached for the can. He stepped closer to her placing it in her hand. I wrinkled my nose. He smelt of alcohol and cigarettes.
