My head was pounding by the time I woke up that morning. I must have been pretty smashed last night because I don't remember moving rooms. I groaned and opened my eyes, blinking in the bright light.

"What the hell, Liam? Why would you even drink that much?" I mumbled to myself as I rubbed my eyes. I stretched and stop short when I felt someone next to me. I slowly turned to my side and froze.

How drunk was I? I thought. Who is this girl? Oh god did I sleep with her!? I knew I had to get out of there as soon as I could. I had a girlfriend for God’s sake! I started to panic and immediately pushed the blanket off of my body and slowly got off the bed, I did not want to wake this girl up. I quickly and quietly put my clothes back on, making sure my wallet was still there and not torn apart, and I got the hell out of there.

--

“Payno! Where the hell did you go last night? We couldn’t find you anywhere!” A certain Irishmen badgered me as soon as I got back to the hotel we inhabited for the week.

“Niall, not now. My head is about to explode,” I groaned. I also don’t have a good answer for you, I didn’t say. I closed the door to our shared room and walked to my bed where I collapsed immediately.

“Hey man, you can’t just ditch us and then try to hide where you went. We might trust you, but we were still worried. You could have at least texted us or something,” Niall said softly. The fact that he isn’t trying to kill me makes my guilt increase tenfold. He walked over to the other side of the room and ran his hands through his hair.

“I, eh--, I passed out at the bar and I guess they just left me there? I don’t remember much, mate. I’m sorry, I should have been more aware,” Which was true, I didn’t remember anything after watching Zayn dancing on a table and then wandering around the dance floor with Harry. I hoped Niall couldn’t hear the trembling in my voice, although I’d probably just blame it on my killer hangover.

Niall just turned and stared at me for several moments, his eyes were narrowed. “Okay then… but we looked all over for you and we didn’t see you… are you sure that’s what happened? Where did you even end up passing out?” He asked with clear suspicion in his tone.

I wracked my aching brain for an answer, “Do you remember that small sitting room? With like, four different couches in it?” he nodded, “Yeah, under that table that was like, right next to the door. That’s probably why no one could see me. Like seriously, who fucking passes out under a table?” I chuckle weakly, hoping that he’ll just believe me and let it go.

Niall presses his lips together to hide his grin, “That’s uh—that’s not what I was expecting.”

“Yeah, so then I woke up about half an hour ago and now I really just want to go back to sleep and maybe get rid of this crippling hangover. Do we have any painkillers in here?” My head pounded louder with every word I spoke.

“Yeah, let me get them for you. Just—stay there,” he went over to the cabinet and got out a glass which he filled with water and got out a small bottle, shaking out two small pills,” he walks over to me, “Here.”

“Thanks,” I said with a weak attempt at a smile. After swallowing the pills, I sprawled out on the bed and drifted to sleep.

--

“LIAM!” I jolted so hard that I fell off of the bed. I glared upward and met the eyes of my four very pissed off bandmates.

Harry took a step forward and shoved a newspaper in my face, “Please tell me this isn’t real, that it’s totally made up and you would never do anything this stupid,” he said. He was practically begging which made my heart start to race. I took the paper from his hand and scanned the front page and the single picture plastered on the front.

Liam Payne Cheating on Girlfriend?

Shit.

I felt my face go pale as I read through the article seeing things like “Liam Payne of famous boyband One Direction seen leaving club with mystery girl” and then “They were seen exiting the venue around two thirty and proceeded to get into a cab. Things looked quite heated.” I felt my heart drop to my knees.

“Liam?” that was Zayn, “It’s not real, right? You wouldn’t cheat would you? Tell me you were just going to a different club,” I had never seen him look so disappointed. Unfortunately for me, he had every right to be.

“I—I don’t—Yeah. I did, and I’ve never regretted anything more in my life. What will I even tell Sophia?”

“I don’t know, mate. We’ll let you handle that one,” Louis spoke up.

I sighed, “Yeah, okay. Um—do you guys mind giving me a few moments?” They all nodded and left the room.

Then it occurred to me, there was only one picture. It could easily be written off as an edit some fan made. Yeah, that seems legitimate. My hopes started to rise the more I thought about it.

I decided not to put it off and proceeded to dial Sophia. “Hello? Liam?” she answered.

“Soph, hey! Listen, there’s something you need to know,” I pause, “There was an article that came out today, and it doesn’t look good. It says that I cheated on you, I swear on my life that it isn’t real. Yes, I did go out, but  I never—” I got cut off.

“Liam, sweetheart, it’s okay. I believe you. I trust you and I know you’re faithful and that you’d never do that. Slow down, take a few deep breaths, and enjoy the rest of your day,” she said softly. The guilt in my stomach made me sick, but I couldn’t stop myself from grinning at how good to me she was.

“I love you,” I told her.

“I love you too. Now, I’m going to go to bed, and you go and relax. I’ll talk to later, love.”

“Goodnight, Soph.”

Holy shit, she believed me. I was consumed with a mix of relief and guilt. I was off the hook. All I needed to do is make a statement about it. I decided to make it on twitter for starters:

@Real_Liam_Payne:

i did NOT cheat on Soph. you cant believe everything you see on the internet. the story is bullshit and not true! thats all i have to say

I watched as my mentions blew up. They believed me, I couldn’t even believe it.

They believed me.  No one ever has to know the truth. Holy shit
