My family thinks I'm crazy. They would never believe me if I told them why I get paranoid when the sun comes up. I fear going outside, because my thoughts start to get jumbled up really badly once I hear someone within earshot. I get so scrambled, everything is wiped out of my head and I stay a blank slate for most of the day; I lose my personality. I become nothing more than a robot that only listens and observes everyone. Everyday, I live like this.
At the end of the day when I get home, as soon as I walk through the front door, I'm myself again. I'm back to being a 16 year old girl with a crush on the lead singer of her favorite band and dwelling over the worries and frustrations of having to transfer to another school... because I'm not 'normal'. I try pretty hard to be everyone's 'normal'.
Something happened to me when I was a little younger. My whole life changed when I was 13 years old.
I was walking to school alone. I was a pretty average girl excited about her new anime shirt and backpack she got on her birthday the day before. I wore black everything else though, just to let the other kids know that I still meant business. I wasn't about to let my parents drive me to school. I wanted everyone to know I was tough. Tougher than they ever thought.
Halfway to school, I started to feel something strange. I looked around me. The two-lane road was lonely and quiet. Nothing was out of the ordinary. My eyes settled on the sun rising through the trees' canopies. Then the sound of a vehicle coming disrupted my peaceful moment. I glanced back at the upcoming jeep but never kept my gaze on it for long. It was starting to slow down as it rolled up closer to me.
'Don't look at them.' I thought to myself, remembering what my parents told me about strangers. But what could I do? Soon enough, they were right there. Anxiety beginning to get the best of me, I trembled a little as I finally turned my head. There were two bald men in black, casual clothing with black sunglasses on. Their shades completely hid their eyes. Their skin was a grayish, green color, and appeared to be as smooth as porcelain. Their heads were abnormally shaped--pointy on top--, and they had two lines tracing down their foreheads down to their eyebrows. My eyes were getting larger the more I looked at them. They both smiled at me, their teeth sharp and jagged like a sharks' mouth. That scared me half to death! I nearly tripped over myself as I took off running.
I ran into the trees and slipped down a hill, nearly losing my backpack. I snatched it just in time and struggled to get my phone out. When I looked up again, there they were. Standing tall--much, much taller than any man I'd ever seen. They were smiling again. I screamed out a bloodcurdling cry for help. "HELP!!! HELP ME!!!" But my voice disappeared. I quickly felt my throat and the vocal cords were straining, yet not a sound emitted from me. My breathing was fast, my heart painfully slamming against my chest.
One of the men knelt in front of me and the other walked behind me. I froze completely. Tears trailed down my face, my cheeks were burning and snot was clogging my head.
"You will be our eyes." The one behind me spoke with a deep, breathy tone--as if it were difficult speaking at all. There was suddenly a pinch in the back of my neck. I jumped with a gasp and my vision was suddenly cut off. It was all dark. I yelped and cried more, quickly reaching around for something to grab so I could defend myself. I heard the men tell me they will kill me if I told anyone about this. I shook my head violently. "No no no!" But I couldn't hear myself. I heard them leave and then my vision came back as well as my voice.
I shifted around looking for them, then I shakingly touched the back of my neck. There was nothing there. The skin felt normal. I scanned the surroundings for those men again. There was nobody in sight. Slowly, I stood up. It appeared that I was all alone.
I started bawling my eyes out. I grabbed my phone from my backpack and called my mom. I told her I forgot my lunch, even though I ached so badly to tell her the truth about what just happened to me. She said it was nothing to cry about and she'll come get me.
I wanted her to stay on the phone with me. Somehow, I had the feeling they would come back if I did keep her on the phone. I felt like I was being watched very closely.
I had to hang up.
Nervously tucking the phone back into my backpack, I grabbed the sturdiest stick I could find and carefully treaded my way back to the road.
Now that I'm 16... I know just what those 'men' are, and I know what happened to me. They are the real men in black. I have been visited by them countless times over these past three years. Every morning, I see them among trees, among people, sometimes peeking from around the corners of buildings--they're always somewhere nearby watching me.
That day they first appeared to me, they implanted a chip in the back of my neck--it's a listening device. I belong to them now, as an agent to monitor humans and their behavior.
I have gathered and concluded enough information to know now... They want to take us all to their homeworld and destroy earth so we won't have anywhere to run to.
They want to be our gods in a place they're most comfortable.
They are all coming for us, and their arrival is very soon.
"Maggie... It's time."
Now I've told you.
Now they've come for me.

I hope you enjoyed this story! Did you find it scary? It was actually going to be submitted to Wattpad's "Fright" page for a contest they were running. I discovered it late and didn't have this story done in time. :/
