Seven, the number of days in a week. Seven, the number of stars in my father's favorite constellation the Big Dipper. Seven, The age I was when my father died. I never knew who my mother was. Dad said she was a carefree soul who always put a smile on his face.
"Behind every cloud is a rainbow" those are the words he lived by. Those are the words that helped him hide his pain since mom was never around. I never understood back then, so I believed that cliche, I believed in him. That was before I found out he was being hunted by the city's biggest crime lords, Mr. Mortem of the Mortem syndicate. I don't know why Mr. Mortem was after us but father told me he wanted me. So in an act to protect me he took me to the train station where I met Dallin. Dallin said he will protect me but father had to stay behind. As I took a seat onto the train I took one last look at my father. "Chloe!" he called "Chloe I love you and don't forge..." BAM! A bullet flew straight through his head and he collapsed onto the floor.
"No!" I screamed. I stood up and ran towards him but the train doors closed and took off. That was the last time I saw my father . Shot through the head by a man wearing a dark hat and trench coat standing behind him, Mr. Mortem. Dallin assured me that he will take care of me as we made our way to one of the safest places on earth.
I was seven the first time I arrived at Camp Half Blood. I was a little shaken up by everything that has happened. But the people here are some of the kindest and strangest people I've ever met. There are people that are half horse half human, and people like Dallin that are half goat. Dallin has the coolest horns I've ever seen it's kinda cute. And then there are the demigods, people like me. I never would have expected myself to be the daughter of a deity, but who I wonder. One day we were playing capture the flag and my eyes were able to see things that I've never noticed before. It was like every detail that i needed to know was highlighted through my eyes. Like my iris was more focused than I've ever been in my life. I was able to see the best path to take as I snuck past the enemy team. I saw the flag but it was heavily guarded. "I'm so close" I thought to myself. I got so close I was almost able to touch it when one of the guards turned around and looked straight at me. "Wha?" I was confused at how he didn't see me. I didn't have time to think so I grabbed the flag and ran. When I declared victory everybody looked at me in awe.
"She's finally been claimed" said Dallin smirking leaning on a tree. In a response I looked up and a symbol glowed over me. It was an arch with seven colors. Seven, the number of colors in a rainbow. Dallin walked up to me and laughed "Impressive Chloe I've never seen an Iris kid bend light the way you did."
I smiled. "Aww thanks" Dallin is so cute. But I would never be into him. He's a satyr after all. Right? Anyways, that day I learned who my mother was and I realized that even though my father may be gone, I am not alone. "I still got my mom" I slept that night satisfied.
Seven years later rumors were spreading around camp. Somebody is kidnapping demigods lately. Chiron wanted to find out where all the demigods have gone and bring them back home. I've been on a few minor quests but this one is the one I've been training for I just knew it. I gathered a small group of campers along with Dallin and we set off to find them. The investigation was a little slow at first until I found our first clue. A camper named Jayden left a note in his hotel room. It was ravaged and torn apart. But a message was calling to me under the bed. A piece of paper was smoking a colorful fog. The moment I picked it up the fog disappeared. The iris of my eye was helping me find clues. The note was a map, that lead back to my home town. I was shocked at first but there was no way it was a coincidence. So my group traveled to my home city Chicago.
First thing I did when I got there was visit my old home while the others in my party searched for clues. My apartment was owned by a couple just out of college. I didn't want to bother them so I went back to the hotel my party was sleeping at. None of them came home that night, not even Dallin. Something was wrong. Dallin and I were pretty close so I could always stay in touch with him. "Dallin where are you?" just then a colorful fog appeared before my eyes. I followed it to Navy Pier in a place that looked like a storage facility. I opened one of the large metal boxes and I was struck by fear. All of the missing demigods were there including my group. They were all there except Dallin. "Where could he be?" I thought to myself frustrated, when the rainbow fog appeared and lead me to a large building near by. I snuck in through the window on the roof it was really dark so it would be hard for someone to noticed me. I found Dallin in a room tied up in a small dark room on the top floor.
