everybody wants to rule the world: tears for fears
~
"So, Paul, I see that you and my daughter are really kicking it off," my dad said as Paul smiles. "How did you two meet?""Mutual friends," Paul nodded. "Her beauty is striking, and when I found out she was intellectual and a child of God, I knew that I had to take her on a date." I smiled at his words to myself because he had never told me this.
"Yes, I do recall you asking me for our blessing," my mom chuckled. "It just shows how well-mannered you are," she nodded at him.
"Thank you, Mrs. Montgomery. This food is delicious-"
"So, has anyone seen that movie 'Silence of the Lambs'? I just watched it yesterday and I think I'm scarred for life," Will spoke and started laughing. "There's this part where he is screaming for this woman to put the lotion in the basket-," Will starts howling in laughter and Harry was laughing at him. My face contorted into disgust as I remembered the movie.
"William Bennet! Not at the dinner table, and especially not when we have guests!" My mother rubs her temples as Will's laughter slows down and as he wipes the tears of laughter from his eyes.
"Apologies," he giggles out and takes a deep breath. I shake my head.
"So, did you guys see the O.J. Simpson chase on TV?" I twirl my fork in my noodles awkwardly as Paul attempts to change the subject. "Al Cowling was driving."
"That is so interesting," Harry nods. I think I was the only one at the table who caught his sarcasm.
"Right? I mean, he could have said some prayers and just pulled over, but I'm not sure if he was religious," Paul nodded as if deep in thought, and looked over at me and smiled.
"Well, sure, but what could God have done in that situation?" Harry squints his eyes at Paul.
"If he were guilty, he could pray for forgiveness, and if he were innocent, God would know this and guide him to freedom," Paul furrows his eyebrows.
"Right," Harry nods, skeptical.
"Well, I'm full!" I announce as I stand up and smack Paul's shoulder, signaling him to get up as well. "Thanks for the dinner," I smile.
"Yes, it was wonderful." Paul follows behind me as I rush outside to the porch. We both take a deep breath once we sit on the swing under a tree in our front yard.
"I can't thank you enough for coming Paul," I rest my head on his shoulder.
"I can't thank you enough for being so understanding." He wraps his arm around me and sighs. "Nobody would accept me like you do, and I definitely didn't expect it from the girl I betrayed."
"You didn't betray me," I shake my head. "Paul, you were going through some things. I think that I accept you more than you accept you."
"I won't argue with that," he smiles and shakes his head.
"How is Ashton, by the way?" I look up at him.
"He is great," he smiles wide. "Yeah, we were thinking about telling his family about us."
"Paul, that's terrific!" I exclaim and clap. "That's wonderful. Wow, I am so happy for you." I honestly laugh and smile. "Do you love him?"
"Thank you, and I think I do," he smiles. "That Harry boy is feisty. What is it about him that you like?"
"He was being so demeaning, and I don't know why. He was really, truly different. Something switched, literally overnight," I sighed. "He went out of his way to make sure I was alright at a party, he sang to Elvis with me, he outright flirted with me with no shirt on, he pulled me towards him and kissed my cheek, wished me to have sweet dreams, and then acted as if I didn't exist. Then he tells me he isn't romantic," I scoff. "He spoon-fed me a night of romanticism, yet he "isn't romantic!"" I flail my arms.
"Maybe he just doesn't like you back, Hannah,"
Paul slowly shrugs. "I know it may hurt your feelings to hear but it is a possibility, and I don't want you dreadfully chasing after someone you won't get something back from rather than just moving on."-- harry --
This guy was such an asshat. Would this church boy's mother be happy if she knew he was snuggled up close to the Hannah Montgomery? Probably, actually. There wasn't anything to be disappointed with when it came to Hannah.
She was so tantalizing and she didn't even know it. She made my mouth water just by crossing her legs when talking to me.
I tossed and turned last night, rethinking my actions. She was like cocaine. I knew I shouldn't have her, and that there were consequences, but the feeling she gave me was so sweet. Not that I do cocaine; not often.
There was one thing stopping myself from pursuing her; Will would literally murder me if he knew I even kissed her. I couldn't "ask for his blessing" like this Paul guy did. I live under the same roof as her, for God's sake. But I wanted her so bad, and I didn't mean to hurt her. I should have told her why I can't do anything with her this morning, because now it's too late. She's with Paul.
Her American accent, her long brown hair, her long, white nails, her bracelets; she was so alluring. Every detail about her made me recognize why I wanted her so badly. How she was so innocent and untouched, I didn't know.
All I know is that I want to push her boundaries, oh so badly.
