Evelyn James was a 17 year old girl who had loving parents. They promised her happiness for life. It sounded amazing. She put her trust in her parents, not for a second doubting them.
Not until one day changed that. In the January of the previous year, Evelyn was just 16 years old at the time, her mother left for one of her business trips. Everything seemed normal, like any other business trip of hers. However, Evelyn did not expect the downfall that would result from this trip.
The trip was only supposed to be two months, which isn't as bad since she's had other trips this long before. What made this trip severely different, was that the two months turned into a year. Her mother did not return until the January of the next year. What makes it even more horrible was that she stopped contacting Evelyn or the father after two months, it's almost as if she disappeared. The daughter and father did worry that something bad might have happened to her and turned to calling the company of the workplace. Thankfully, she was alive.
Unfortunately, she continued on her trip without even a single phone call or text. She was alive, and well, but missing in this family. She's out in foreign clubs and beaches meanwhile, back at home her family is suffering and trying to pick up the broken pieces.
Evelyn's father turned to drinking. He says the alcohol enables him to not feel the heart ache that his wife left behind. He only started after being laid off from his job. After that, he was feeling as if he wasn't good enough for his wife, or, more importantly to him, his daughter. She was the light at the end of a dark tunnel, but he felt as though he was only dragging her down. His heart hurts each time he thinks about he has no job and little money to take care of his daughter, when he feels that she deserves the world.
Evelyn loves her father. She understands the pain he's going through, because she's dealing with the same pain. At least they're going through it together. She took up a part-time job to be able to help financially. Even though the father isn't aware, she would sometimes pay for bills or food. What the father also doesn't know is about the countless nights of crying she spends in her room when she comes home to the numerous amounts of beer bottles in the house, and how she knows how much hurt he is facing. She just wants her father healthy and happy, and she will fight until they both are, completely.
Along the way Evelyn confides in her friends, only to lead to more discoveries and changes. She also meets someone who makes her believe in hope all over again, just when she had thought she lost it.
