Bloodlust

I couldn't sleep.

My mind was racing at a thousand miles per hour.

Mostly because of what Seth had told me.

I didn't know what he had meant, of course. Even as he explained the whole "eternal love" thing, I still had a hard time processing it. It took me a while to understand that I wasn't claimed like a slave. It wasn't slavery, of course. And my feelings for Seth were sort of mutual. Still, it was still working through my head.

It was highly confusing. Did it qualify as "too fast"? Could love already be part of the equation?

He said that imprinting was involuntary, and fate was involved in a way. The only question I still had was: If I'm a wolf, why didn't I imprint on him?

I decided that sleep wasn't an option around one in the morning. I got up, threw on some warm clothes, and walked out the front door.

I didn't know where I was going. I didn't know what I was doing. I just needed to clear my head. I walked into the woods that were behind the house, the half moon casting an eerie glow on the forest floor. I trudged through the woods, still trying to comprehend what he told me.

It's like gravity, he told me, it isn't the earth holding me to the ground. It's you. I will do anything, be anything you need.

I didn't know if loving Seth was something I could be capable of just yet. He was truly amazing, but it's been all of four days. It didn't seem realistic.

He loved you since the moment he laid eyes on you, my mind reminded me, and you've learned that there are many more unrealistic things that can happen.

I sighed, trying not to overthink. I always overthink. Why couldn't I just let my feelings rule for once?

I let my feelings take over when I punched Will. And I hadn't really felt much since. Until Seth came along.

It didn't seem right to keep thinking about it.

I guess...

Crunch!

It was a small noise to my left. Any normal person wouldn't have heard it. The smallest amount of pressure crushed a leaf about two yards away from me.

I turned and yelled, "Who's there?"

I was answered with silence. I searched the darkness for any sign of movement, but there wasn't anything moving near the fallen tree trunk. I took a reluctant step towards it, as silent as I could be. I peered into the darkness, trying to see what had made the noise. Nothing surfaced, and I started to think that I was hearing things. I looked closer, finding nothing still.

I turned around to keep walking, only to find a very pale-faced woman inches from my face.

She stared at me with hungry, dark crimson eyes.

Instinctively, I tried to run.

I turned in the opposite direction, not even trying to think about who or what it was that I was running from. I couldn't think about anything but trying not to trip and fall in this damned forest. I could make out the house just past the trees, so I pushed harder.

Only to be stopped by the lady again.

She was impossibly fast as she grabbed my throat with a very firm grip. Her hair was a dirty matted blonde, and her face showed an expression of pure madness. Her dark red eyes burned with hunger, and as soon as she snarled, I put the pieces together in my head.

She was a vampire, the creatures Seth had said that they--or, we--hunt.

And I was her midnight snack.
