"So how did it" Nola asked Kalani as she closed the car door, getting out of the heat.
"Fine" Kalani replied, not wanting to talk about school anymore. Nola just wished she would show a little emotion and give her something other than a one word answer.
"It's your last day of finals. Atleast be happy. I know I'm happy to be done" Nola said to her, pulling her sunglasses down onto her face.
"I still have another year of this bullshit. You're graduating. I don't see why I can't just leave that shitty ass school already." Nola sighed.
"Your mom would've wanted you to finish and your grand-"
"I get it. Can you just take me home so I can get ready for work?" Nola reached over and grabbed Kalani's hand.
"No work today."
Kalani looked away from the road with a questioning look.
"Yes work. I picked up an extra shift today."
Nola shook her head and looked over at Kalani when they got to the stop light.
"I called and told them your not coming in today"
"You've got to be kidding me" Kalani did not like when people did things behind her back.
But she got used to when Nola did it. She was just surprised.
"I thought you had work today. You never take a day off. What happened?" Kalani was confused because Nola's mind was set on work, so for her to take a day off or even miss any hours of work was rare.
"Lani, all the girls are home today and I thought it would be nice if you and I took some time off and just like spent it with them. You know like chilling by the pool or even going out"
"You. Going out? Yeah right" Kalani grabbed her bag and books before walking out of the car that was now parked in the driveway.
Nola let out a gasp and followed behind her.
"Hey guys! We thought you changed your mind." Torrie chuckled looking over at Nola.
Camilla came down the stairs in a white one piece ready to go out to the pool.
"So no one else is going to join us?" She asked pointing put the door.
"I'm coming" Torrie giggled and made her way outside a drink in one hand and a bottle in the other.
"I'm out. I'll be upstairs" Nola was now long gone, she was upstairs getting ready so it was just Camilla and Kalani.
"Are you sure? It's gonna be fun" Camilla offers.
"I'm sure. Bathing suits aren't my thing"
Camilla pouted and looked in Kalani's eyes with pleading eyes.
"Fine. I'll throw on some shorts and just sit outside if it makes you happy" Camilla smiled and nodded.
"Hurry" Kalani jogged up the stairs and walked into her room.
She put all her books away and put on some shorts.
She kept on her t-shirt but put on an olive green bikini top underneath. In case the girls try something on her.
Nola peeked into her room and smiled.
"So you're coming out?"
"Yeah I guess so"
Nola gave Kalani one of her weird grins and pulled her out the room door and down the stairs.
"Let's go."
