People stared at the clock, willing it to hit two so we could all get out of class and go see the game. When it finally rang a hoard of people jumped from their seats and scurried towards the door as quickly as possible. I sauntered out of the rom, in no hurry to become one of the people swallowed by the masses.
The second I passed through the doorway two arms wrapped around my waist and drew me to a solid chest. A pair of lips captured my own and, for a moment or so, I found myself separate from the people who surrounded us. It was just me and Beck.
When we pulled away from each other everyone around us faded back into focus. “I’ve missed you,” he muttered, pressing his forehead against mine momentarily. “How long has it been since I’ve last seen you; a day?”
I rolled my eyes playfully, pulling away to take his hand and drag him down the rowdy hall. Various people decked out in the school’s colours raced down the hall chanting vigorously. With it being our football team’s second game of the season there was such a high energy it was almost overwhelming.
“You walked me to my last class Beck, and I’d rather not be the reason why the school’s quarterback doesn’t show up for our first home game of the season,” I glanced behind me with a wicked grin, one that Beck hadn’t seen me wear at school before. “Now, hurry your cute butt up before the school decides to chop my head off for you not showing up.”
Beck let out a booming laugh but continued walking along behind me. He remained quiet as we wove our way through people who high-fived him and cheered him along. They were petting his ego to an unreachable height that I would have a damn hard time pulling him down from.
It took us a few minutes but we final stumbled across the football change room. Before I could push him through the door so he could change and get ready to jog out onto the field he pushed me up against the wall next to the door.
“When did you start thinking that I had a cute butt?” his eyes shone with mischief and a boyish charm that I doubted would ever leave him. I simply chuckled in response, leaning my head against the cool brick I was held against. “And if the whole school blamed you for my being late or not showing up, then screw them. I’m sure at least one of them knows when it’s like to be in a relationship.”
Letting my hands trail up his forearms I let them stop on his firm biceps. “Yea but no one’s dating the school quarterback who the whole school hopes will lead the team to victory,” I leaned my forehead against his when his hands came to rest on my hips. “And I’ve always thought you had a cute butt, especially when you’re wearing your football pants.”
He appeared to weight what I had said for a moment or two before leaning in and nuzzling my neck. His warm breath tickled the sensitive skin of my neck and I squirmed a bit trying to get away from the funny sensation. “I might have to wear these football pants more often then,” when he pulled away from my neck he shot me a wicked wink that had my knees buckling beneath me.
“Or you could change into them right now,” I offered up, doing my best to keep my voice as even as possible. Unfortunately, it was proving to be harder than expected.
Through hooded eyes I watched as a slow smile crept over his face and his dimples appeared. It was the genuine smile I’d slowly come to love, one that trumped his grin or smirk rather easily. It didn’t take a mind reader to know the thoughts that were running through his mind then.
