Chapter 2

"Run."

As soon as he said that word I ran and ran until my legs reached my front door. I pulled out my keys and fumbled with the lock. Once I finally got my door unlocked, I quickly went inside and locked the door in about three places. I still didn't feel safe, so I pushed the closest table towards the door.

Once I felt safe, I turned around and closed my eyes, then slid my back down the wall until I ended up on the floor. I let out a deep sigh knowing that the man wouldn't be able to get me now.

While I was thinking, I heard a noise. It sounded like a muffled laugh. It was probably the man on the other side of my door. Hah. He'll never get in. Then I heard it again, but this time it sounded louder.

"Hello beautiful." I was looking frantically around the house for the origin of the noise. Since it was dark I couldn't see anything, so I slowly crept over to the light switch when I saw a pair of glowing red eyes coming towards me. I quickly patted the wall searching for the switch when I finally found it.

I turned the switch and nothing happened. I flipped the switch back and forth and still nothing happened. I turned back around and the eyes were gone. I started to creep over to the kitchen, because I knew there was a flashlight in one of the drawers.

Once I grabbed the flashlight I immediately turned it on and walked to the stairs. I could feel my body shaking while I scanned the area for the figure. I was going upstairs when my flashlight turned off.

I started looking down the staircase when I saw the glowing red eyes staring back at me. I hit the flashlight with the palm of my hand praying that it would turn on. "You know when people compliment you, the normal reaction is to thank them."

The eyes started to come closer to the bottom of the stairs and I felt my knees tremble beneath me. I managed to stutter out, "wh-o are yo-u? Wh-at do yo-u wa-nt?"

The eyes were at the edge of the last step, when they disappeared. I heard the man say, "Don't worry princess, this won't be our last time together." I felt a cool breeze run down my neck, just as I had when I was in the alley.

Then all the lights turned on, even my flashlight. And the man was gone.
