Stuck With Bullies (SITM Short Story)

Part 2

During the next couple of months of school, things did not get better for Harley to handle. In fact, things have gotten a lot worse. Last week, Harley found one of her inventions vandalized and was taped with a note saying

'keep on living nerd, becuase it will be a living hell!'

But that's not all. Harley also recieved another anonymous note in her locker that said:

'I will come find you and your family and kill you all myself if you are not dead!"

Harley tried her best to stay strong, but it was clear to her that her peers want her dead. She began to take in all of this pain and could not do anything about it.

Harley ran home from school crying really hard. As soon as she ran inside her home, she walked to the fridge to grab a snack when she saw a note on the fridge that said:

'Harley and Ethan- taking the little kids to a birthday party, Rachel will be out with Cuff, and Georgie will be spending the night at a friend's house. Do your homework and don't burn the house down. Should be home around 8pm. Love Mom and Dad'

Harley shrugged and grabbed some chicken wings out of the fridge and ate them. After that she ran up stairs and slammed the bedroom door. She slid against the door and her face into her knees crying again.

"If they don't want me here, then I guess this is goodbye." Harley said to herself lifting her head. She got up grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil and began to write a final goodbye to her family. Although Harley knew that this is not the answer to do this, but she also wants the suffering to end.

She then headed towards the bathroom taped the note on the door and began looking through the medicine cabinet. She grabbed a bottle of drugs opened the cap and poured out a handful of pills. But before she forced them down her throat, she took a look at herself in the mirror one last time. The girl that was staring back at Harley was someone willing to push her to the edge but also drowning into her own tears.

"See you later." Harley said to her reflection. After saying her final words, she shoved the pills down her throat and felt darkness consume her knowing that there's no turning back.

Ethan came home from a guitar lesson. As soon as he stepped in the house, he had sensed that something was not right.

"Hello? Anyone home?" Ethan called. Silence. He then turned to the kitchen and saw one of his mom's notes on the fridge. After reading that note, he decided to check if Harley was home.

"Harley, are you here?" Ethan called out again, but the house was still dead silent. He went upstairs and headed towards the girls bedroom. He opened the door, but no Harley. He then headed towards the bathroom and noticed another note taped to the bathroom door.

'My dear family,
If you're all reading this note, this is my way of saying goodbye. For those who don't know what had been happening to me the last few weeks of school, I had been a target of bullies. It all began from teasing me in person to sending me notes filled with death threats. This really hurt me so much I began cutting myself. I never wanted to tell any of you this (although Ethan was the only person who knew about it) because I thought you wouldn't understand and would take matters into your own hands. Please do not be mad at me. My decision was already made. I'm sorry, and please burn this note after reading. Thank you all for being such a wonderful family and I hope to see you on the other side.

Your daughter and sister, Harley.

After reading that entire note, Ethan felt tears welling up in his eyes and dropped down to his knees.

"H-Harley .... how could you?" Ethan whispered letting out sob.

Ethan got up to open the bathroom door and found Harley's lifeless body surrounded by pills. He knelt down and tried to give her CPR, but sadly nothing worked. Nothing could done to save his little sister. He placed her on his lap and took his phone out of his pocket to call 911 then his entire family.

About fifteen minutes later, Ethan heard sirens in front of his house. The desperate teen rushed downstairs with his lifeless sister in his arms. The paramedics took Harley from Ethan and placed her in the ambulance.

"Can I please come?" Ethan begged the staff.

"Are you her brother, son?"

"Yes."

"Alright, then."

Ethan was relieved when they said he can ride with Harley, because Ethan would sacrafice anything for his BFTF.

Ethan jumped into the ambulance before the ambulance made its way to the hospital. Throughout the whole car ride, Ethan held onto Harley's icy cold hand praying she will be ok.

As soon as they got to the hospital, paramedics rushed Harley into the ER leaving a desperate Ethan who was still praying that his sister will make.

3 hours later

It is now 6:30 pm and Ethan sat in the waiting room waiting for the rest of the family to arrive.

"Harley Diaz?" a doctor called. Ethan shot his head up and approached the doctor.

"How's my sister doing?" Ethan asked worryingly.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Diaz ... we did everything we could. Your sister didn't make it."
