The rest of the ride was extremely awkward. My phone had died, so I couldn’t talk to anyone, and as much as I hated to admit it, I was having Aimee withdrawals! Aimee was my ride or die, and I missed her like crazy.

The tension in the car was so thick; you could cut it with a knife. I tried to think of a way to apologize to Ben.  I mean, I knew all about “wolf mode”, which is what I called the rare times when the inner wolf of a werewolf could push through and take control of the physical body during times of severe emotional turmoil or stress. The were would just be sitting back, powerless, watching the scene unfold, waiting for the wolf’s concentration to lapse, to take back control. I shouldn’t have slapped him, and I over reacted. I was just so scared!

Once I had a dream that I became a wolf, and my family died. The death of my family triggered the end of the world somehow. I don’t really remember exactly what happened. I knew that it was a bad omen, given to me by the gods. I prayed to my mother, and Poseidon, and begged that they do me one favor. Prevent my wolf from being developed. Athena promised that I would never have to become a werewolf, and that she would make sure my wolf was dead. Artemis didn’t like the idea, but decided that it was for the best. I always wondered who sent my dream messages.

I wasn’t so sure about my wolf being dead, but she said it was the only way.

I fell asleep, trying to think of the perfect apology. I had 'the weirdest dream ever, and I’d had some crazy ones. I was walking through a deep and dark forest, looking for something. Suddenly, the forest ended, and there was a clearing. The clearing was what could only be described as tranquil, and soothing. About 30 feet away, there was a sheer drop off, into the Pacific Ocean. I realized too late that the forest had gotten too quiet.

There was a feeling of dread in the air, along the smell of rancid meat. I felt a malicious force radiating from the forest in back of me. I turned around and looked at the forest that I had just left behind. The trees had turned black from the sheer evil of the thing that was coming up behind me. I braced myself for the attack that I instinctively knew was coming.

I was surprised at what came out. I blinked hard, once, twice, thrice. I couldn’t believe my eyes. My twin, if my twin was six inches taller than me, stick thin, had blonde hair, and was white. We had the same eyes, nose, lips, and from what I could tell, the same facial expressions. It was like looking through a funhouse mirror.

She looked just as surprised as me, until she snapped out of it. “Sister,” She growled out. Her voice was harsh and scratchy.  The rotten meat smell was coming from her.
“Mother chose YOU over me?” Her eyebrows and voice rose. She seemed honestly confused.

“We’re sisters… through Athena?” I asked stupidly.

“I cannot BELIEVE, that she chose an ugly, ratchet, stupid BLACK girl over ME!!!”

“Wait just a minute! First of all, I ain’t ugly and we look almost exactly alike! Secondly, you the ratchet one, smelling like some nasty meat. You need to take a bath. And last but not least, Black!?

“MOTHER CHOSE YOU OVER ME?!” She yelled again.

“Look girl, I have no clue what you are talking about.” She shook with rage, and shifted into the scrawniest and most pitiful wolf I’d ever seen in my life. Her fur was lackluster, matted and falling out in clumps. She had bald spots all over her body. She bared her yellowed and decayed teeth and launched herself at me.

I felt something inside me trying to come out, but I wouldn’t let it, I was afraid. Instinct told me to move, so I did. I shifted my weight to my left foot and crouched down low. My “sister”, flew over my head and almost fell off the cliff. But by the scraggly hair of her behind, she managed not to slip off. She pawed at the ground like a cartoon bull ready to attack, and she charged me again. This time, she tried to bite me. My vision was tinged blood red. I needed to see her life blood, pumped directly from her blackened heart on my hands. With my back to her, I waited for her. Right when she was about to lunge for my jugular, I spun around and caught her maw in both hands. I squeezed with all my strength until I heard something snap.

At that moment the bloodlust melted away. I realized that, no matter how twisted and evil she was, she was still blood, and I needed to know why Athena hadn’t told me about my half-sister. I would have never thought that she would hide something so big from me, especially since she knew how important family was to me

I let her face go, and as she hit the ground she shifted back to her human form.

“Why would you do this? What is going on?” I was utterly confused. She was my sister, and we were bound by the godly ichor that flowed through our veins!
