Chapter 2 Emotions
Carson pulled the car in the school parking lot. My own hands were shaking anticipated to get this day over with. Carson didn’t remove his hands off the steering wheel and taking in slow steady breaths.
“Hey… are you okay?” I asked sincerely. He looked towards my direction forcing a smile.
“Let’s get this day started!” I grunted, making Carson laugh at my lack of enthusiasm. Opening the car door warmth hit me suddenly; smiling ear to ear I was happy to leave the freezing weather. We both walked in silence as usual and headed to the main office which was hard because we had no clue on where the place was. I tried really hard to stay invisible, but for some reason everyone was starring, strange. I stayed focus on finding the office which was a complete failure.
“You think we should ask where?” I asked looking up at him.
“You think Sherlock?” Laughing at the stupid comment I turned and to my surprise a guy with blondish brown hair, bright green eyes and maybe a few years older was standing not a foot away from me, making me jump a little.
“Office is that way” He pointed down the hall, and of course there it was in plain sight.
“Uh thanks” He smiled and waved as he walked down the hall. I stood there until Carson pulled me along and I knew I was going to hear about it later. The bell rang and all the students scattered quickly to their first class. He opened the door to the office and I followed in behind.
“Ah you must be Carson and Veronique Hayden am I correct?” I smiled and nodded towards the lady who seemed she was in her late forties with a little gray in her blond hair.
“But please call me Ronnie” She smiled in return and motioned us to sit down.
“The principle will be with you two shortly” We both sat down on the chairs near the front door and waited silently. A new school was one of my worst nightmares even though I was looking forward to starting over. I wasn’t really ready to give up my old life and start new, but I had to start sometime. A beep sound went off and the lady smiled at us.
“She’s ready for you two, go on in.” She said with a chirpy voice.
“Thanks” Carson muttered. We slowly walked to the left towards the closed door that had the words “Principal” on the wood door. I knocked softly.
“Come on in!” What I could hear from her voice she sounded nice, let’s hope she is.
“Damn” Carson whispered under his breath. I slapped his arm giving him the look, it seemed like he didn’t notice. I heard her laugh and looked at her for the first time and my eyes went huge.
“Aunt Julie!” I ran around the desk and flew in her arms. I smiled up at her as she kept laughing.
“How are you doing sweetie?” Taking in a deep breath I stepped back.
“Better” She smiled again and turned her attention to Carson.
“And you?” He shrugged his shoulders.
“Been better” Aunt Julie hugged Carson, she sat down at her desk chair and we both took a seat in the chairs that were in front of her. I forgot how much she looked like mom except Aunt Julie was a few years younger and had blue eyes instead of green, and this sister was more of the rebel back when she was in high school so seeing her as the principal was weird to me.
“Alright here are your schedules” She handed the schedules to Carson and I.
“We will catch up later today. Dinner sound good?” I smiled and nodded in agreement.
“So you two better head to your first class. I made sure you had a few classes together” Carson and I both grunted as we both stood and walked out.
“You both have a marvelous day!”
“Bye” I turned and waved as Carson pulled me out of the office and into the hall.
“The desk lady handed me the campus map as we walked out” Carson said handing the map to me.
“Well first class is…” I looked at my schedule and his and just perfect we had all but one class together and that would be sixth period last class.
“History room 203” Carson grabbed the map and started walking down the hall.
We found the classroom after ten minutes, because of Carson wanting to find his way with no help from me. I opened the door walked in as Carson walked in behind me. The teacher was standing behind his desk reading off a sheet of paper.
“Well class give a warm welcome to Carson and Veronique Hayden they came down all the way from Denver, Colorado” I smiled as I took the sheet he handed both of us. Mr. Rivers our new history teacher was in his mid-sixties, he had on a green button up plaid shirt tucked in his blue jeans, with gray converse. He pushed up his glasses from the tip of his nose and started to read the syllabus where he left off. Carson already found a seat in the back corner of the class, which left an opening in the third row, second seat.
The rest of the day wasn’t interesting, so my mind wandered off thinking about other things. I was standing in line for lunch when someone tapped my shoulder.
“Hey you’re the new girl I met earlier” I saw him again those green eyes, not a lot a people had those eyes beside my brother and I.
“You must be related to Julie” I told him.
“I’m the principal’s son yes, I’m Ben” I breathed a sigh of relief I didn’t want to start the school year having a crush on some guy, cousins are a good thing at the moment.
“So how do you like San Francisco so far?” I shrugged.
“That great huh?” I laughed a little.
“No it’s not that it’s….” I paused having all emotions come back to me all at once. Is stumbled forward a little Ben catching my arm.
“Whoa… are you okay?” I wasn’t sure who was speaking, but for some reason I only wanted to curl up and cry at this very moment. Placing my hand on my head from doubled vision, my body gave out falling as Ben catches me.
