Purple Ring

Note: sorry this is very poorly formatted, I needed to just get it out

He's in the hospital,
No he's not
He got into a car accident,
But I was there, if anyone where to get hurt, it would have been me.

Bring the money to him for our teachers gift
But he hasn't been here in days
Call him, text him, has he snapchatted you back?
His phone is off, it doesn't even ring.

We've got our finals this week
Why would his parents keep him home
Has anyone tried stopping by his house?
No.

I'm stopping by tomorrow, she said
Our scout went out, we awaited her return
Wondering where our friend had gone,
When he was coming back.

Our papers where we dumped our knowledge, of acids and naming organic chemicals,
Lay clean before us
But we turned to ask our returned scout of new news and her travels
He wasn't home, his mom had said, talk to him when he gets back, he'll be ok.

And then a little glow
"I can only have my phone for a little bit"
Where are you? Are you ok?
"I'm out Monday"
Ok.

Monday brought an empty seat
But a short video of a dog and cat
Filled the void like cotton
At least he's home.

Go see him
Call him
He sounded ok over the phone
It's not related to the car
Go easy on him.

Car parked in the driveway
Do I walk to the door?
I can't stay for long,
Can you come out here?

He looks fine from there
One step closer, oh, there's something wrong
Maybe he got in a fight, beat up
That doesn't sound like him.

"It broke my nose,
But I survived
I talked to her
But I didn't know how I was going to tell you."

Standing in the driveway
Tears slowly soaking his shirt
"It hurts to smile"
But something close to it was sitting atop his face.

He's got a group,
People to keep him out of the house
But 1,149 miles, 14 days
And then some more,
No longer was there joy in leaving the country for the first time.

A purple ring
Knotted around my pinky
A promise
A reminder.

An empty chair
But I didn't know how I was going to tell you
1,149 miles
A purple ring.
