Look At You
The front door swung open loudly, slamming against the wall before it eventually closed under its own momentum.
Kimberley stood in the darkened living room, she had only arrived a few minutes earlier, just in time to experience the full force of Cheryl’s dissapointment.
The younger girl walked in to the livin room, her eyes met Kimberley’s for a second before she looked away.
“Cheryl” Kimberley said softly, walking over to the girl, her make up was slightly smudged around her eyes from where she had been crying, but other than that, she looked immaculate.
“You’ve heard then?” Cheryl asked, trying not to let the anger in her voice show through.
“Hilary text me, I came as soon as I could” Kimberley responded, looking down at the long, white dress she had on.
She hadn’t been at the charity party for more than an hour when her phone had gone off in her hand bag.
The week before, Cheryl had told her to go to the party instead of accompanying her to the Brit Awards, knowing how much the charity meant to her.
“I just feel stupid” Cheryl sighed, kicking off her high heels and walking over to the couch. Kimberley followed her, sitting down on the edge, next to Cheryl.
“You can’t win them all Cheryl” Kimberley replied softly, putting a comforting hand on Cheryl’s back.
“I didn’t win any” Cheryl replied sarcastically, with a look that told Kimberley not to continue.
“If it was up to me, you’d win them all” Kimberley offered, kissing the top of her head before sighing sadly.
Of course, Cheryl needed her, so she wouldn’t have been anywhere else, but it saddened her that she had spent so long getting ready for a party that she was at for a matter of minutes.
“I’m going to bed” Cheryl replied glumly, retreating towards the staircase.
-
She watched through the crack in the door as Cheryl slammed down various objects in anger. She was sat on the edge of the bed in her pyjamas, her phone by her side beeping furiously.
Kimberley wondered how mamy more text it would take for her to launch it at the wall again.
She opened the door quietly and walked in, she gave Cheryl a sympathetic look before pulling up a chair next to the bed.
“I’m sorry it didn’t turn out the way you had hoped” Kimberley started in her soothing voice.
“But there is always next year”
Cheryl nodded although her face betrayed her, she wasn’t really listening to what Kimberley was saying to her.
The younger girl sighed heavily before turning to Kimberley, “Look at you” she said softly, a sad smile breaking on to her face.
“You look so beautiful, and I haven’t even told you that have I?”
Kimberley went to interject but Cheryl stopped her.
“Here I am, wrapped up in a stupid award that I didn’t win, and I haven’t even told you how gorgeous you are”
“Its fine” Kimberley protested with a warm smile.
“No it isn’t” Cheryl shook her head, “When was the last time I told you taht you looked beautiful?” Cheryl asked.
“I don’t know” Kimberley shrugged with a frown.
“When was the last time I told you I love you?” she asked, although Kimberley wondered if it was more a question to herself than anything else.
“You don’t need to tell me every day you know” Kimberley replied, trying to make her girlfriend feel better.
“I can’t even remember” Cheryl muttered sadly.
“I can... It was last week when I reminded you of a meeting you were almost late for” Kimberley smiled simply. She put a reasuring hand on to Cheryl’s shoulder and leaned down, kissing her softly on the lips.
“When was the last time we had a holiday?” Cheryl went on.
“Now that...I don’t remember” Kimberley laughed, getting up off the chair and walking over to her side of the bed.
She took her shoes off and put her jewellery back in its box before turning to Cheryl, “Maybe a holiday would do us both good”
Cheryl nodded, getting in to bed. She pulled the sheets close to her, her mind ticking over, thinking of everything and nothing at the same time.
“I don’t think we will be getting a holiday for a while yet babe” she sighed lazily.
“I have to be in America on Sunday remember?”
Kimberley nodded with a sad face, “You don’t need to remind me” she said sarcastically, slipping in to bed next to Cheryl.
-
“Do you think I’m doing the right thing?”
Kimberley rubbed her eyes grogilly, she looked at her watch before responding, it was 2am, and by the sounds of it, Cheryl had yet to fall to sleep.
“About what?” she asked with a frown.
“America” Cheryl replied simply.
Kimberley shrugged, she let the silence sit in the air for a while before responding.
“It’s what you have always wanted Isn’t it?”
Cheryl nodded with an ironic laugh, “It’s one of the things I always wanted, yeah”
“I hope the other one was me” Kimberley joked with a smile, despite the odd hour.
“It’s always you” Cheryl replied with a smile.
“And they say that you win all the awards” Kimberley giggled playfully.
“I wish you were coming with me Kimberley”
Kimberley sighed deeply, she turned on her side to face Cheryl before reaching her hand out to touch the younger girl’s hair.
“I’ll be here when you get back” Kimberley reasoned, trying her best to sound positive, despite her misgivings on the subject.
“Three months is a long time though babe, I don’t know how I am going to cope without you”
Kimberley smiled as she moved closer to Cheryl in the bed. “I suppose you best make the most of me whilst I am here then hadn’t you”
Cheryl smiled knowingly, her eyes sparkling in the moonlight as she let her finger trace the outline of Kimberley’s lips.
“I love you”
