Chapter Two
The doors to the private jet shut with a hiss. Kimberley watched from the airport window as the plane got ready to take off, with her girlfriend on board.
She couldn’t see Cheryl from where she was stood, but she waved anyway, staying there long after the plane had disapeared out of view.
It would be three months until they saw each other again, they had promised to call and text each other every day, but Kimberley knew that the next few weeks were going to be tough.
It hadn’t even been five minutes, and her heart already ached for the girl.
I should have gone
She brushed the thought away, almost as quickly as it arrived. There was no way that she could have gone with Cheryl, not without everone finding out about their relationship anyway.
A friend would wave her off at the airport, a girlfriend would go with her.
She sighed to herself as she made her way back to her car, the silence just another reminder of the distance between them.
-
Cheryl stared out of the window of the small jet, it was completely white outside, but it wouldn’t have mattered what she was looking at, because she wasnt really concentrating.
She thought back to Kimberley’s face as she got out of the car, getting the case out of the boot and pulling it for her. She could tell there was something she wanted to say, but she didn’t push her.
Maybe if she had, she wouldn’t be sitting alone on the plane to America.
The next three months were going to be hard, she had become so used to coming home to Kimberley, she had almost forgotten what it was like to go home to an empty house.
-
“It’s really nice, you’d love it” Cheryl said happily as she held the phone to her ear.
“Make sure you take lots of pictures for me” Kimberley replied. Her voice was cheerful enough, but Cheryl had learnt to tell the difference between her real happiness and the fake kind she used for others.
“You wouldn’t need the pictures if you came out here” Cheryl replied back breezily.
“How would that look Cheryl?” Kimberley answered, her voice becoming more serious.
“It would look like you were my girlfriend” Cheryl concluded, and try as she might, the thought still left her with a feeling of utter panic.
“We wouldn’t want that would we?” Kimberley replied sharply.
“Kimberley... this could be my big chance out here, I just don’t want anything to spoil it” she sighed heavily.
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to spoil your big chance Cheryl...I’ll just sit here and wait for you to come home” she replied, trying her best to sound light and jovial.
Cheryl sighed down the phone.
“Is this how it’s going to be babe?”
“No...No, it’s not...I’m just upset” Kimberley said, struggling to find the right words.
“I know, I just really wish you were here” Cheryl replied, getting up off the sun lounger and walking back in to her private villa.
“I wish you were here” Kimberley replied with a little laugh.
“Mrs Cole?”
Cheryl turned around to see who the voice belonged to, seeing the maid, she decided it was best to let her do her job, so she moved back out by the pool.
