It was a hot and sunny day in Springfield, Illinois. The grass was a beautiful green hue and the sky was painted blue with little white abstract shapes of clouds.
It had officially been a week now since Dylan Collins had moved to Illinois with his mom and twin brother, Zach. They were just about settled in. His mother just had to unpack a few more things and then they'd be good.
But Dylan was feeling a bit anxious. Mainly because tomorrow would be the first day of his freshmen year in high school. Not only was he nervous about being the new kid, but he also had to worry about being a freshman. Freshmen were always looked as to be immature or as a target for constant harassment. And Dylan really didn't need that shit. Especially since he just got away from his abusive father for good. The young teenage boy sat on his porch, his legs crossed together. He bounced a small blue ball up and down on the wooden surface, staring at it with an expression that screamed boredom. Hopefully he'd make some friends tomorrow. If he ever got the nerve to introduce himself, that is.
The screen door made a sudden squeaky noise, meaning that it had been opened. It slammed shut after someone came out. Dylan didn't bother to check and see who it was. It was most likely Zach doing who knows what. The unidentified person took a seat next to him and spoke softly. "Dylan, baby?" It was his mom, Courtney. "You okay?" She gently brushed his bangs away. Ever since his dad sent him to the emergency room, Courtney had been extremely protective over him.
Dylan stopped bouncing the ball and just held it as he looked up at his mom. "Yeah. I'm just a little nervous, that's all..." He admitted quietly.
"About what, baby?" She asked, her eyes full of care.
"School...meeting new people..." He answered, shrugging slightly.
"Well don't worry about that. You're a great kid. I'm sure a lot of the people here will like you." She reassured.
Dylan didn't respond. He just moved his gaze down to his lap.
Courtney placed her hand on his back and rubbed it soothingly. "Why don't you go help your brother fix up dinner? I'm going to work a little in the shed." His mom always worked on painting old chairs, tables, etcetera.Dylan nodded his head and stood up, placing the ball on the window sill outside before entering the small house.

Dylan and Zach began to work on making spaghetti for dinner. As they cooked, Dylan couldn't help but wonder what Zach thought about all this. He hadn't really said much about dad or the new school or meeting new people or anything. Then again, Zach was a lot more brave and sociable than him. Just because they were twins, doesn't mean they were exactly the same. That's why dad always abused him more than Zach; Zach wasn't a pussy.
"Zach?" Dylan looked at his brother. "Are you...scared at all?"
Zach blinked, looking back at Dylan. "Scared of what? Dad?"
"No...I mean...are you scared for tomorrow?"
Zach shrugged, stirring the pasta that was cooking up. "Not really."
"How? I mean, aren't you afraid you won't fit in or that you'll get picked on?" Dylan questioned.
"I don't worry about that kind of stuff. If someone doesn't like me, well then, fuck them." Zach simply stated before turning to look at Dylan again. "Look, don't listen to whatever people say to you. And if they hurt you, just let me know. Okay?"
Dylan sighed and nodded. "Okay."
"Good." Zach smiled slightly. "Now, dinner's almost done. How about you go and fetch mom?" He ruffled his brother's hair.
Dylan laughed a bit, fixing his hair. "All right."

After dinner, Dylan decided to get himself ready for bed. He knew that if he stood up for too long, he'd be too lazy to get out of bed the next morning and possibly miss the bus. Not a good first impression for the first day of school.
He got under the covers of his bed and rolled onto his side. Tomorrow would be the first day at a new school with new people.
Just great.~ ~ ~
AN: So there's the start of my Mylan fanfiction! Next chapter will have Milo in it. ;)
But before I continue on with the story, I just want you all to know that Dylan and his family live in a different house and Milo will live in the house in the movie. Also, Zach isn't psychotic. In this, he's just protective, rebellious, and flirtatious.
But that's just about it for now. Hope you all enjoyed the chapter! :)
