I heard a light shuffle before I felt a sudden throbbing pain In my shin.
I cursed under my breath before sitting up and turning the lamp on.
"Louis?" I asked quietly, trying to get my hair tamed and my voice back to normal instead of raspy.
No response. He is still asleep but right when I reach over to the lamp I hear a muffled yelp. "DON'T TAKE HER!" I heard him shout before throwing him fist in the air attempting to punch someone. I dodged all his punches before reaching over to shake him. I called him name loudly and he finally rolled over and his eyes opened.
"Crystal." He said emotionally, and i could see relief washing over his face by the way his cheeks were flushed white, and they were returning to their natural color. He basically pounced on me, tackling me and hugging me.
"Louis, what the heck happened?!" I asked, full of worry and obviously curiosity. My dang curiosity gets in the way all the time, but people who don't have curiosity just don't live an exciting life.
"Um, nothing.." He said, immediately blushing furiously.
"No Louis, this is the second 'nothing' you've said and my curiosity about you is prying at my head so you're goin to tell me." I demanded.
"No, you'll find out later. Good night Crystal." He said, reaching over me and turning the lamp off.
See, he's nice the first second, changing the second. Emotional roller coaster much? I couldn't fall asleep, because again, my curiosity. Sudden questions took me over. Who was the she? Why was he fighting someone? What was happening? Why won't he tell me? Is it about me? unending questions.
I looked at the clock and it read 5:00 a.m.
I pried myself from Louis' grip and got up, padded into the kitchen, and poured a glass of water. I took a big gulp before walking over and plopping myself down onto the big brown, velvety couch and pulled my legs up beside me. I picked up the remote and tuned into an old episode of the Brady Bunch. My favorite childhood show.
I continued on to watch five more episodes of it before hearing a deep, husky, think British accent ringing through the darkness.
"Hey." He said, confused as to why I was not in the room with him. I was so scared that I literally jumped off of the couch, taking my water with me, which resulted in a few scattered splotches.
He looked so good in just basketball shorts, he had a perfectly toned stomach, and again I found myself staring.
"Crystal, you've got to work on seeing me without a shirt on. Why are you in here?" He asked.
"Why are YOU in here?" I decided to reply with a counter question.
"I heard the TV and noticed you weren't in bed." He replied simply, as he walked towards me and sat himself beside me.
"Couldn't sleep." I answered shortly and sweetly.
"oh." Is all he said before sliding his arm across my shoulders and pulling me to his chest.
It was just peaceful, sitting with him while we watched tv, me hearing and feeling his steady breathing, his hand massaging my back. I smiled to myself at the feeling and he noticed.
"What?" He wondered with a half smile.
"Nothing, I just like this feeling." I said.
"Me too." He agreed, kissing me on the top of my head. There go the butterflies.
We fell asleep again in each others arms and didn't wake up until 10:00 a.m.
He took me to breakfast at- wait for it- Waffle House, and the people cooking started fighting so we ate as fast as possible and left quickly. We laughed the whole way out into the car and started driving.
"Hey, I want to take you somewhere."
"You mean somewhere ELSE?" I corrected him.
"Whatever." He rolled his eyes at me. We kept driving and finally we reached a long dirt road that I didn't know led to.
He pulled in and the bumpy drive took a while before he pulled onto a gravel street with parking spots. He pulled into a parking spot and we got out.
"It's a good thing I wore this today." I mumbled, gesturing to my outfit of Nike shorts, tennis shoes and a plain white t shirt. ironic, isn't it? I looked up at the place and it was surrounded by rocks and trees. Why did he take me here?
Reading my thoughts, he answered.
"We are going on a nature walk. Or a hike, whatever you want to call it." He said.
"Oh, okay.." I trailed off, still taking in the natural beauty of, well, nature.
We started hiking after asking me if I was ready about five hundred times, and walked for about 2 miles before stopping in the middle of a beautiful field. I just noticed he was carrying a woven brown wooden basket. He set down the basket and reached in to find a light blue different colored quilt.
"What's all this?" I asked with a smile plastered across my sweaty face.
"Well, not just a nature walk, but I thought it would be nice to have a picnic. What do you say?" He asked, excitement again appearing on his tan face, easily seen in his eyes and smile.
I nodded in agreement and sat down beside him as he unloaded the items in the basket. Right before I knew it, all kinds of foods sat in front of me, like chips, sandwiches, cans of lemonade, and Oreos.
We dug in and had many conversations just getting to know each other more, knowing plans after college, and some about us. I figured out that after college, he wants to be a professional soccer player but if that doesn't work, he wants to work somewhere that involves sports. He is thinking about coaching a kids soccer team but when he said that, I laughed.
'Louis, your patience is always at a level of zero!" I laughed so hard I almost spit out my lemonade.
He laughed along with me and after we were done, we layed down for a minute as he held me securely in his arms. Until we got up and were on our adventure once again.
