It was still hard to grasp the fact that she was a witch. Leona spent hours pouring over the little information the letter gave her. Why her? How did she not know that her mother was a witch as well? Why didn't her mother tell her? Her father disappeared early in the morning now and came home after Leona went to bed. Her mother was unusually silent. Daniel was the only thing Leona could turn to. She had no friends outside of school. Even Daniel seemed different, but in a good way. He seemed to notice what was going on through Leona's mind and was even more affectionate, for a horse. He would nuzzle her and whinny at her silence.

Leona just didn't get it. Her mind was an overcrowded QnA session. No, more like a QnQ session. Questions just brought up more questions. She couldn't sleep because of them. Until one night her mother came up to her room and sat at the end of her bed. She just sat there, silent, no movement. You could just hear breathing. Leona stared out her window and zoned out watching the moon.

"I'm sorry." Leona jumped. Her mother was staring at her. She looked tired, as if she had stayed up for weeks on end. "I'm sorry I never told you. Your probably so confused." Leona shrugged. "Well. If you have any questions, go ahead."

Silence.

You could hear a pin drop.

Her mother got up to leave. "Why me?" Leona asked. Her mother stopped in her tracks,"What?" "Why am I a witch? Why am I not... Normal?" Her mother turned around,"You've got magic in your veins. I'm a pureblood, which means that both my parents were magical. I was brought up in a completely magical family." She sat back down. "What am I?" Leona asked. Her mother sighed,"You are a halfblood. You have a magical parent, me, and a muggle parent, your father, muggle means that he has not one drop of magical blood in his veins." Leona felt a little weight taken off her shoulders, a question answered. She still had a million more.

Her mother had them all answered by morning.

Leona was leaning forward as her mother began telling her the story about a boy who was supposed to be at her school this year. Harry Potter. Apparently his father was a wizard and his mother was a muggle who was indeed magical. "Mudbloods." Her mother said they were called as she cringed,"Don't ever use that word in front of them. Its very cruel. My parents hated muggleborns because blood status mattered to them. They were both in Slytherin. (her mother had explained the houses earlier)" But his parents, James and Lily, had gotten married and had Harry. Then this "dark lord" named Voldemort (her mother cringed but Leona just stayed perfectly fine and said fear of a name is just creating more fear of the thing itself.) killed them and tried to kill Harry but it didn't work and Voldemort disappeared.

"He's a saviour." Her mother cooed. She then told her about the Malfoys. "Lucius and Narcissa." Her mother growled,"Rudest bunch of purebloods there is. In line with he-who-must-not-be-named I tell you. They take blood status even more seriously than your pureblood grandparents." She stopped in thought. "I have a feeling their son should be in Hogwarts this year too." She looked directly at Leona,"So stay away from him." Leona just shrugged.

Her mother checked her watch and her eyes widened. "Your father should be home by now..." She got up and went downstairs. Leona looked at her clock, 4 am. She yawned and stretched. Her mother told her that they would get her school stuff that afternoon. She closed her eyes to get a little bit of sleep.

But she couldn't stop thinking about what the Malfoy's son was like.

***°°°°°***

That afternoon she and her mother made their way down London until they reached at place called the Leaky Cauldron. It seemed like everyone but Leona and her mother couldn't see it. Their gaze just passed over it like it wasn't even there. "Magic" her mother answered when she asked.

They made their way out the back door of the pub and towards a brick wall. Her mother took out her wand, which she had shown Leona a few things with, and tapped a brick three times. The wall moved into a giant arch right before her eyes and her mother took her through. By the time she had turned back around it was a wall again.

Her mother took her through the shops including Flourish and Blotts, a beautiful magic book store where her mother had to drag her out while she was already reading a textbook. They went to Eeylops Owl Emporium and walked out with a beautiful Spectacled Owl that Leona named Pax. They got ice cream, her mother got chocolate raspberry, Leona got Mint Chip.

After they finished her mother took her to Ollivanders. Her mother was called off by one of the woman from her job (the Ministry of Magic, her mother told her earlier that day) and went off to talk to her. Leona walked towards the old shop. As she opened the door she could hear a little bell. It was an old shop most definitely, beautiful though. She was startled by a voice that said,"Good afternoon Miss." She spun around towards the desk to see an aging man that looked quite nimble. He bowed and Leona bowed back. "Ah yes. Miss Cline. I have been told you are quite the gentle lady. Very polite for your age, wonderful I must say." Leona blushed and hid behind her scarf.

"Your mother had quite the wand. Made of willow, pliable and elegant, eight and a half inches, gorgeous for duel work." Ollivander smiled as he spoke. Leona was amazed. Next thing she knew he measured every part of her and they were trying wands.

What seemed like hours later, Ollivander pulled one last wand from his shelves. "Quite an interesting wand here... The only one here with two cores. We use only unicorn tail, dragon heartstring, and phoenix feather here and one core each. This one." He said as he handed the box to her,"Has a core of spider web and of serpent tail. Made of Sequoia wood with a handle of Senna wood. Slightly springy. 11 inches 12 centimeters. Elegant look." Leona pulled the wand out of the box and almost immediately felt warmth rush through her. She was surrounded by light and then... it was gone.

Ollivander smiled and as he reached for the wand froze,"The wand chooses the wizard... This wand is made for a very powerful wielder. One that's protective and loving. Very powerful." He looked into her two toned eyes... "You are very interesting Miss Cline. Very interesting..."

Leona payed and left after bowing to him as he bowed back. She stepped out of the dusty shop into the bright sunny air. Her mother ran up to her and clapped her hands together when she saw that she had obtained a wand by herself. "We can stop by the Leaky Cauldron and get something to drink before we leave." Her mother said as she took Leona's hand. They began walking towards the wall when,"Ah. Mrs. Alaysia Cline." A monotone voice said with a hint of cruelty. Leona's mother spun around,"Mr. Lucius Malfoy." Leona hid behind her mother, memories of the stories of the Malfoy family ran through her head.

She saw a tall man with straight white-blonde hair. He had a very stern face and was quite stiff in stance. You could tell he took care of his image. Fancy dress, shiny shoes, straight posture. Then he spoke again,

"I don't suppose you've met my son, Draco?" Leona finally noticed a boy her age standing in line with his father and you could tell he was trying to gain the same image. He had blond hair that was slicked back, stormy grey eyes, and a smirk upon his face. She caught his gaze and they kept eye contact for a good five seconds. His grey eyes staring straight into Leona's two toned blue-magenta ones. "Shake hands for you two will be in the same school for seven years." Mr. Malfoy said. Draco held his hand and Leona crept out from behind her mother to shake it. As their hands touched Leona felt some sort of tingly feeling in her stomach. Her face heated up a tiny bit and she realised she was blushing, but why? They shook hands and Leona retracted her hand all too quickly.

Leona hid her face further with her scarf and turned away. As they went separate ways she couldn't stop thinking about him and she didn't understand why. Little did she know the boy she just shook hands with was having the same problem and the pink that had dusted her face was also dusting his.
